of the evening.
Mrs. Russell McCallum
President, welcomed the large
gathering and Mrs. Donald Gaf-
fney introducecaMr. Gray.
"Educational T.V. is• making
people aware of the fact that all
T.V. is educational in some shape
as it is all informative'', he said.
T.V. has been used in schools
in the U.S.A. for the past fifteen
years. It is a fact that all people
spend so ,much time viewing T.V.
not only children, that it has a
great influence on the lives of all
ages". Mr. Gray added .that
more people have 't V.
in their homes than have
children, telephones or Lift
Insurance andapoke of one church
in Toronto which uses T.V. in
their Sunday School as a medium
of teaching.
Speaking of T.V. in London
schools, he said there is one T.V.
for every 90 students. Mitchell
P.S. has two T.V's. The one
reason T.V. is not used more
often is that it does not fit into
the timetables but Mr. Gray
pointed out that video tapes which
may be purchased and monitored
on a monitor and used at any time
are very practical.
Willie Cardwell of the M.D.H.

FORMAL
Anyone searching for a for-
mula for success would do well
to follow the steps taken by the'
Students' Council before the An-
nual Formal last Friday night.
Months of hard work and diligent
preparation went into making it
the biggest and most beautiful
bash ever. (Well, anyway, in the
last' dozen or so years.)
Some time ,ago, committees
were organized and people placed
in charge of different areas:
those deserving aspecial mention
.include Neil;MadDonald - presi-
dent of the Students' Council, Jim
Rowat and Brian Leonhardt —
lobby, John McGrath , streamers, '
Melannie Matzold, Neil Mac-
Donald, Jean Campbell, Carol
Bell - murals, Cris Turnbull,
Angela Devereauf- throne, Barb
Bryans - cafeteria, Ray Beattie -
incidentals, Gwen McLean - ad-
vertising and public relations,
Bill Kunz and Ralph Smith -
lights. Special mention goes to
the custodians - Mr. John Hen-
derson, Mr. Don McLean and
mr. Frank Roberton who put up
with the deCorating every night,
Upon entering the school, the
couples atte'hding entered a gar-
den. After passing through flower -
arbours, they could admire a -
wildlife scene (with genuine gold-
fish) or continue through into the
auditorium decorated as a ball.-
room. Lunch was available in
the cafeteria, arranged to re-
semble an outdoor patio..
The highlight of the evening
was indubitably the crowning of
the 1970-71 School Queen. Vo-
ting was carried out by secret
ballot on Wednesday and the Queen
and Princess chosen from the six
nominees (Barb Bryans, Angela
Devereaux, Gail Doig, Mary El-
liott, Sharon Shea, ,and Nellie
Swinkels). ,At midnight, the girls
were introduced by. Neil Mac-'
.Donald; they walked down-the..
auditorium to the throne at the
rear, where the winner, Miss
Gall Doig, was crowned by. last
year's queen, Miss Cynthia
Newnham. Her attendant for
upcoming year will be Sharon
Shea. Music for the evening was
provided by Johnny Downs and
his Orchestra. The attendance
figures were higher than anti-
cipated, but an enjoyable time
was has! by all. •
Again, thanks to all who work-
ed so long to make this event
such a successfyl one.
