TRIP TO WATERLOO
Friday of last week Mr.
Dobson and those students of
Grade 12 who appeared on the
TV quiz show "Reach for the
Top", attended a seminar at
Waterloo Lutheran University.
Nancy Forrest, Beata Malkus,
,Marg. Elligsen, Les Perrie and
Paul Moggach met with other
secondary school students in the
new arts complex on the W.L.-U.
campus. Representatives were
present from other schools such
as Hanover, Arthur, Collingwood,
Wingham, Owen Sound and
Clinton.
After introductions and
coffee, the students divided into
interest groups and each group
was conducted through the faculty
division in which they were most
interested. Seaforth students
toured the departments of-
science, English and, history.
Later everyOne met back in the
arts building for lunch with the
president of. W.L,U., Mr4. Peters.
The winning teams on "Reach

the campus book store." Colin
Campbell and other inembers of
the CKNX TV staff were at hand
to congratulatethe winners:After
¤ lunch, the students enjoyed a film
on archeology in the Holy Land.
Then they were conducted on a
tour of the campus, its library
and residences. After a question
and answer period, coffee and
cookies were served, and every-
one left for home.

Queen by last year's winner -
Miss Cynthia Newnhain. The six
nominees - Barb•Bryans, Angela
Devereaux, Gail Doig, Mary
Elliott, Sharon Shea and Nellie
Swinkles - were presented to the
student body in , a special
assembly Monday afternoon. El-
ection was by secret ballot on
Wednesday, and the winner will
be known only tomorrow evening.
The student body hopes that the
fruit's of their labobrs will be
appreciated by all those attend-
ing.

- In preparation for the Huron-
Perth tournament to be held at
Clinton Armed Forces Base April
25th, Miss-Maryanne Weiler, the
girls' coach has been pushing
her young protegees hard. The

- The Seaforth Beavers dumped
Atwood two games straight to
became the W.O. A. A, Inter-
mediate Grand Champions last
week.
The Beavers who won the 'C'
title were challenged by Atwood
'D' class champions.

Chappel. Mrs. Jean Carey talked
about, Vegetables All Year Round.
The girls discussed the differ-
ence between Canada Fancy and
Choice peas and broccoli cooked
for 5, 10 and 15 minutes.
The sixth meeting was held at
Mrs. Carey's home. Mrs. Carey
disCussed Decorative.Vegetables
and demonstrations were made by
Cathy Segeren, who made Sour
Cream Vegetable Dip. Barbara
Roney and Donna Waddell made
Vegetable Garnishes. Marilyn
and Carol Miller made a Veget-
able Centrepiece.

W. M.S. MEETS
The Women's Missionary So-
ciety meeting was held at Cannel
Presbyterian . Chur-ch. Monday,_
evening. President, Mrs. R, A.
Orr, opened .the meeting with a
poem "The Matter of a Friend",
and read a prayer from the Glad
Tidings. Devotional and study was
given by Mrs. Malcolm Dougal
and Mrs. Glen Bell. A piano solo,
"How Great Thou Art" was
played by Linda Bell, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. RObert Bell, R, R. 2.

Schwalm read minutes and a
piano 'duet by Mrs, Ed-Munn and
Mrs. Malcolm Dougal followed.

quired 'only by those taxpayers
making - contributions to the
Canada Pension Plan but now it
is required by all thOse who file
an Iticome Tax Return. Applicat-
ion forms for Social Insurance
Numbers are available from any
Post Office, District Taxation
Office, . unemployment -Ihiurance•
office or office of the Depart-
ment of Health and Welfare.

bank interest as income when
filing my income tax return if
they don't send me a T5 slip?
A. Yes, bank interest is income .
and it is your responsibility to
report it ,whether or, not you
have received a T5 slip from the
bank:

are, fees to Fraternal societies
and service clubs deductible?
What about union dues? I under-
stand that they are. taken as a
deduction but that There is only
a portion of the dues allowable.
How do I know how much I can
claim for my union dues and how
do I know what is not an allow-
able deduction?
A. Fees paid to fraternal so-
cieties and service clubs are not
deductible from employment in-
come. Your union should inform
you what you can claim for your
union dues by giving you a receipt
to file with your income tax re-
turn.
4. Q. I am IL salesman operating
out of my house. I have a room
set up as an office. Can I claim
any expenses for this "office"
when figuring my income tax?
A. If the town is used solely for
the purpose of earning yOur in-
come .you may be entitled to de-
duct a portion of the cost of
maintaining your house as a
business expense. Unfortunately,
more information would be re-
quired before you could be
advised on how to calculate the
amount of your deduction, but
your District Taxation Office will
be pleased to help you.

presiding.
The devotional discussed
creeds and the background of the
Church. Mrs. Cecil Pepper gave
several selections on the piano
and Mrs. Dave Kyle gave the
study on "Youth and- the Adult
Conflict".
Unit I is responsible for the
general meeting to be held on
May 25.
Mrs. Harvey Keys and her
assistants served lunch.

Mrs. Peck , reported on the
District Board Meeting. The Dis-
trict Annual will be held at the
Carmel Presbyterian Church,
Hensall on May 23rd with Kippen
East Institute in charge of
arrangements.
