PEAR DORIS - Last summer I
went with a university student.He
told me that I classify people
according to myself. Those thee
rate lower I do not care about,
and when I am with those whom I
classify higher than myself, I am
shy and ill-at-ease.
I know that this is trtie'about
me. I wish that I could just be
myself with, everyone alike! This
way I feel so strained - I cannot
let my true personality show. I, am
always thinking what the persons
I rate higher are doing.

Could you please tell me the

something about the work itself?
-HARRIET
DEA—HARRIET - Do you enjoy
social studies more than chemis-
try? And do you love to figure out
why people act the way they do?
Do you want to do your share in
making the world a better place
to live i0
Then you are right to' find
out about social work - because
the likes and dislikes I mention
are apt to go with the girl who
will make a success in this
career. Several Canadian univer-
sities have schools of social
work. •
There is so much variety that
it would be hard to put it in a
nutshell. I'm sending You a leaf-
let - and would suggest a conver-
sation with a flesh-and-blood so-
cial worker. The family agency
in your area has one who would be
happy to tell you about what he or
she does all day.

DEAR INSECURE - Aren't there
any others who are just plain,
insecure, trying-to-get-along
people like yourself? Or are they
beneath your notice?
The truth of the matter is
that under each proud or palid
exterior beats a heart ,ready to
give and receive friendship and
love. Ready to respond to what-
ever you feel moved to express
to them.
To judge from your long let-
ter, love has not been lacking in
your home. Now it is your tern
to give it - where it is needed.
Wash out all those' phoney clas-
sifications and look upon each
one you meet as a potential friend.
You'll be opening magic doors
for yourself when you do.-
DEAR DORIS - My husband was
transferred here. We jest simply'
can't seem to make any new
friends. We have invited and
invited, and only once did one
couple come:. My husband's boss.
There are two. other couples a
bit younger than us; but as far
as I'm concerned they're
snubbing us in a' very nice way.
We are both warmhearted, soc-
iable, easygoing.
It -gets -really lonely, My
husband buys the odd bottle, so
we sit here together ariehave
a couple of drinks like an-old
couple too old for anything
else.
We only have one little girl,
four years old. People always like
). her.
