Orowinie News A. VISIT TO THE BAKERY During the holidays the Brownies of the 2nd. Seaforth Pack visited Trapnell's Bakery.. When we first arrived the bakers were busy taking pies and cakes from a huge oven which looked like a Orris wheel. It was very hot, in there but it sure smelled gOOd. Then, we saw them mak- ing Clover Leaf buns and they gave us a piece of dough to play around with. They were making Chelsy Buns and the way they make them is they get a long long piece of dough and then put in nuts. raisins and cheriiies then rolled it up and cut it into even pieces to rise and bake. We also saw them making buns and Vead. , They had two htige cans with flour, sugar and brown sugar in them. At the end of the tour they gave us a bag with a cookie and tart in. it. We enjoyed this very much and 'also learned more about the bakery and the town. After we left the bakery we went to Sea,forth Creamery to see how the sandwich spread is made and wrapped. Linda Suzanne Heard' On Sunday,* April 5, the pack travelled to Mitchell to attend Sunday School at the Grace Lutheran Church. This trip being an extension of our Jubilee Project ''Get to know our town" as Grace Lutheran is the Church of one of our Brownies. On Palm Sunday we all enjoyed a visit to the ser- vice at St. James Roman Ca- tholic Church. C. Maidens, Brown Owl.' NEWS OF Correspondent MRS. NORMAN LONG The annual meeting of Kippen East W.I. will be hejd in the Legion Hall in Hensall on Wed- nesday evening. The hostesses are Mrs.Alex McGregor and Mrs. Mike Con- nolly and the roll call is "pay your fees and join again" and bring a program suggestion. There be reports of standing committees. The highlights of 1969 and IVO. Camdra girls are Mrs. Grant MacLean, Mrs. Verne Alderdice and Mrs. Alex McGregor. The program also will in= dude a skit and a humorous reading by Mrs. L. Cooper. "Thank You" letters were read from Camp Menesetung, Goderich and the Alcohol and Drug Concerns Institute for money donations which had been sent earlier. Mrs. Wm. Smith, manager of the Bank of Montreal, Exeter, for the past 12 years is retiring after a' 45-year banking career. His successor is John E. Irvin who was previously manager at Timmins, according to the Exeter Times- Advocate. The same paper relates that the Exeter police department has no further report in their investigation of last week's robbery at Gould & Jciry's store. The thieves made off with a con- , siderable. sum of cash and cheques. The paper continues ,that anyone who cashed a personal cheque or a family allowanCe cheque at the store previous to the robbery is asked to contact the store immediately, The Brussels Post reports that Robert ,Davidson•of Brussels recently celebrated' his 90th birthday at his home here.Mem- bers of his family were present for the occasion. Mr. Davidson, who lives alone, keeps house for himself, prepares his own meals and , enjoys a daily walk downtown. •The Post also tells that an estimated loss of $5,000. in damages as a blaze swept through the top floor of a barn on the farm of Ronald Snell, R.R. 3, Blyth,,on Sunday morning. Twenty-eight sows and 45 piglets were saved from the blaze„ however, two sows and several ,small sucklings were lost. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scott Sr., according -to the Blyth Standard, marked their 41st wedding anniversary, on Friday, April3rcl. The Standard has another story in which the Blyth Lions Club announced that a ' new loud speaker system had been instal- led in the Blyth Arena at a cost tO.the club ,of $142.50. We note in the Clinton News,-Record the‘a baseball organizational meeting will be Itelci Thursday at eight at theCommun- ity Centre for Intermediate Baseball. All players And people interested in helping out with the intermediate club are asked to attend. The Record continues with a story that Idella Merle Willis, an antique collector, lost a number Of antique items in a recent fire. Firemenfrom Clinton and Brucefield managed to save the clock- tower which houses the old Clinton post office clock. Mrs. Willis salvaged the clock three years ago and had this special tower- built for it at her home. In a further story the Record relates- that twenty-one guest attended Clinton Lions Club's annual rural-urban night recently, Guest speaker :was Douglas Jamieson, son of mr. and Mrs. Arnold, Jamieson, R.R. 4, Clinton, who is now head of the crops division at Centralia College of Agricultural Tech- nology. The Mitchell Advocate reports that at a, recent meeting of the Monkton Lions Club money was voted to provide for five homes in,Pakistan at a cost of $33 each through CARE orCanada. In another Story ' the Advocate relates that mr. and Mrs. John Quinsey marked their golden wedding on Saturday. The bride is the former Ethel Robinson, daughter of the late. Mr, and Mrs. Henry. rtobinson of lot 9, con. 3, Hihbert. •,Mr. Quinsey, is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Quinsey, Logan 'Township. A third story bring's to light the fact that Mitchell will he included in the regional,health planning su rvey for„,--;3 ' Perth and uron Counties during the • surveyors' study of the role of hospitals , in the two counties. .Also in the Advocate an item relatee`that Mr. and Mrs. William J. Winteringham were honored by a family dinner at the home of theledaughter.and son-in-law, Mr.. and Mrs. Kenneth Gibson, 0.on the occasion of their 43rd wedding anniversary. The Lucknow Sentinel has a news item that the Port Albert post office will of- ficially close this month. Word has been received that April 21st will be the last business day at the post office, located in Petrie's ',store at the' port. The office was established in. September of 1929. The Sentinel also reports that VI-. and Mrs. Philip Stewart of Lucknow marked their 50th wedding anniversary. In another report of the same paper under White- church news is that three sets of twin Holstein calves were born on the farm of Archie Purdon since the first of Jan- uary. There are five females and one male calf from the three sets. Another record comes to light in the same paper which points out that five Hendersons all from one, family, are members of the Lucknow School Band. Their ages range from B to 18-and are the children of Mr. and Mrs. .Jim Henderson of Lucknow. A final item from the Sentinel relates that Mrs . Tom Inglis of West Wawanosh observed her .89th birthday on March 31st, The Goderich Signal-Star reports that it's Mayor, Dr. G.F.Mills and family escaped serious injury early Sunday morn- ing when they were involved in an accid- ent near Hagerstotvri, Maryland. The family was returning home from a short vacation at Myrtle' Beach. South Carolina, when they ran into a snow storm near Hagerstown. The Milverton Sun reports that the District High School will be closed,' later to he converted to Senior Publiii School. According to the Wingham Advance- Times, Mr. and Mrs. Wee Lee, residents of Wingham for over 50 years, quietly celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary., recently at their home here. Natives of Canton, 'China, they .did not., meet until after they had moved to Canada as child- ren. They were married in Ingersoll but shortly after moved to Wingham. Their seven children were all born in Wingharn. There are eleven grandchildren and one, great granddaughter. In another item the Advance-Times reports that 35 people were stranded in Whitechurch during the worst blizzard for many years, last Thurs-,; day. The Port Elgin.Tiines reports that the Stevens‘flepner Co: Ltd., has announced the purchase of the Peerless Brush Man- ufacturing Company which is located in Montreal'. , 'Several key- employees of Stevens-Hepner Co. Ltd., are presently in Montreal for product and machinery train- ' ing. The company will be transferred to Port Elgin. 'The same paper reports that Mr. and Mrs. Adam Cairns of Port Elgin marked their 50th wedding anniversary recently. They were married 'in Kin- cardine in 1920 and moved to Port Elgin in 1924. For' many summers, Mr. Cairns pilot Ed the pleasure lakecraft "The Rest- less" on Lake Huron from the Port Elgin. dock.
