The Ontario Federation of
Agriculture believes that a stand
must be taken to protect the in-
divtdual farmer from the hyster-
!cal outbarsts being made in
public both for and aiainst the
Benson White paper on Tax Re-
form..
The OFA In a release thid
week stresses that farmers must
make efforte to bring about con-
structive changes In' Our taX
system. The Federation will hold
a provincial workshop conference
on March 30 in Toronto to ex-
plain the proposals of the White
Paper and how the farmer is
affected.
It is suggested that this meet-
ing, be attended .by represent- -
gives from _ across Ontario,
could lead to similar workshops
and infOrmatien Meetings at
county add towtMhip levels. •
The titFA supports the an-
flounced intent of the reforms to
bring about an equitable taX
system'. But the Federation
stresSes that there are numerous
areas.which need change before
the White Paper wilrbe acdept.-
able to-farmers.
The Federation points out that
a much needed change, the
integration \ of the federal tax
system with the provincial and
municipal tax systr -n, is .not
achieved in Mr. Benson's paper.
()FA president Gordon Hill
explains that this integration is
a necessity.
