euchre under the auspices• of
the Order of the Eastern Star
at ,the home of Dr. and Mrs.
Maurice Clugston on Wednesday
when winners were: Ladies High-
Mrs. Arthur Routledge; Ladies
Lone Hands - . Mrs. McArthur;
Men's High - Harold Pethick;
Men's Lone Hands - Dr. W. J.
Thompson.
Mrs. Harold Currie gave the
study "Man Alive". Mrs. Ed.
Dick was presented with a Life
Membership and Pin from the
U.C.W. and Mrs. Gerald Glenn,
was also presented with a Life
Membership and Pin donated by
Mrs. John M. Glenn of Exeter.
Mrs. Harold Parker, Mrs. Tay-
lor were in charge of the pre-
sentations. Mrs. Taylor gave a
poem and Mrs. Kpight of Ed-
monton, a former minister's
wife in Hensall, spoke on the
"Crash Pad" pertaining to' the
drug traffic. Mrs. Boyce closed
with prayer.

cretary-treasurer respectively.

Easter message of Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Eric Luther 'was guest
soloist and gave the story of
the hymn and sang "The Un-
veiled Christ" with her husband
at the piano. Mrs. Harvey Hyde
thanked the• guest 'speaker, so-
loist and pianist. Ushers were
Mrs. R. Madge •and Mrs. H.
Sdell.

Considers Budget

UNIT ONE MEETS"
Unit 1 of Hensall U.C.W. met
Thursday afternoon with Mrs.
Lorne Hay presiding, who opened
the meeting with a poem "Easter
Needs" and her devotional, was
entitled "If a man die, shall he
live again".
Unit 1 is responsible for nur-
sery and flowers in April and
everyone was reminded of the
April Fools supper inthe church.
Mrs.. Albert Shirray continued
with 'the study on "Indians in
the far• North and gave high-
lights of their trip -to Moosenee
last fall which she and her
husbiand took. Mrs.'•-Jack Con-
sitt conducted •a contest and Mrs.
Gordon Munn and assistants ser-
ved lunch.
Hensel]. Womens Institute met
Wednesday evening in the Legion
Hall for their Agriculture and
Canadian Industries meeting with
president, Mrs. Clarence Reid
presiding for the' business ses-
sion.
Members answered the roll
call with "Name something grown
on the farm and is used in in-
dustry". The annual fee of
$25.00 for the Mentally Retard-
ed Association was 'donated, also
$30.00 to the Hensall Branch
468 of the Canadian Legion.Mrs.
T.J.Sherritt and Mrs. Robert
Elgie were appointed, a sick corn-
,mittee for April and ,Mrs, JOhn
Skea, Mrs. Pearl Koehler and
Mrs. Elizabeth Riley a nomin-
ating committee.
Mrs. R.-Simpson spoke brie-
fly on the meeting she attended of
the Mentally Retarded Associa-
tion held in Exeter recently.
Mis. Wilbert Dilling chaired
the program which consisted of
solos "The Wander of it all" Ind
"Surely goodness • and mercy
shall follow me" by Mrs. Eric
'Luther, accompanied on the piano
by her husband who contributed
a -piano selection. Mrs. Robert
, Simpson gave the .motto "The
"N--Poetry of Life", a iiiiniorous
reading "Mrs. Casey at the
Euchre Party" by Miss M.
' Mrs. Don Travers gave
a short commentary on the 4-H
Club and introduced Alma Oud
who commented on the display of
needlepoint by the 4-H girls club.
Courtesy remarks were given
by Mrs. R. Elgie. An auction
sale with Mrs. James McAllister
as auctioneer, assisted by Mr's.
Dilling netted $30.00. Program
convenors were Mrs. W. Dilling
and Mrs. Maude 'Hedden;
hostesses Mts. Gladys Cole-
man and Mrs. Len PUrdy.

A pot luck dinner and quilt-
ing proceeded the meeting of
Chiselhurst U.C. W. opening with
the theme song and prayer by
president, Mrs. Russell Brock,
who chaired the meeting. The
worship on Easter ,was given by
Mrs. R. Boyce and members
answered the roll call with a
Religious custom. Minutes
read and approved. It was
announced that eleven "large'
quilts and two crib quilts had
been made by the ladies sinch
January.
'Mrs. Jack Brintnell, Mrs.
Alvin Cole, MrS. R. Taylor and
Mrs. T Brintnell rendered . a
quarteIte. A motion was passed
to buy Easter lillies for the
church. $10.00 was donated to'
the Bunny Bundle at C.F.P.L.
London. A crib quilt will be
made for the Fall bazaar.
Hullett Couetil will consider
what members referred to as a
"budget of necessities" at a
special meeting to be called
shortly.
Decision to have the Clerk-
Treasurer prepare such a bud-
get was taken following a lengthy
discussion of a proposed mill
rate at a special meeting on
Monday. The budget Clerk-
Treasurer. Clare Vincent, will
prepare to take into considera-
tion • anticipated effects which
twice a year payments of the
Board of Education levy will •
have on Township finances.

A by-law was passed setting
the interest rate on Tax Arrears
at 1% per month. The former
rate of 2/3% per month.
Plans for supplying gravel
were revised and the Road
perintendent is to. arrange for
stock-piling two thousand y' ards
for later use in road building:

Mrs. Lloyd Jaques attended
a bridal shower on Saturday for
Miss Elaine Murray of Wood-
stock, at the home of Mrs.Nor-
man Barr in Toronto.
We are sorry to report that
Mrs. Arthur Hopkin is a patient
in Stratford General Hospital
and Miss Ada Hopkin a patierit
in St. Marys Memorial Hospit-
al at time of writing.

at the Queensway Nursing Home
in Hensall, formerly of Toronto.
