ping downtoWn the other day, I
was • looking at a chocolate
Easter rabbit when it suddenly
came 'to my mind, ,how did a
rabbit become part 'of Easter?
Could you possibly fineout
how rabbits and chickens have
become a part of Easter, which
children love so much? I'd like
' to tell mine about it., •
- SYLVIA -
'DEAR SYLVIA ' 'e 'did' a little
browsing and came up with some
possible•origins.
For one thing, the egg has
been a- symbol of life and death
down". through the ages, and
came to represent resurrection
and hope. Probably the chicken
followed the egg, this time, and
.both were connected with spring
and 'new birth.
With no rabbits in the Holy
..this7.1s, a bit more ob-
scl rem But there were plenty-of
hares in Palestine, and there "
are a 'leap of 'Myths abOut
.rabbits since Christ lived. Can
anyone help with this one?
DEAR -DORIS - Ever since I
had a nervous breakdown, ern- .
pitlire.rs have been, refus1ing me
employment. How do I get past
the medical examination with-
out 'explaining What happened,
or parry the interviewer's
questions about the months I
missed from work?
If I tell the truth the answer
is always no. .
DISCOURAGED-
DEAR DISCOURAGED - Con-
sidering the fact that a large
proportion 'of mentally ill pa-
tients now return to their
communities cured' and able to
resume work, it just isn't fair.
But old beliefs and stigmas die
hard.
I'd suggest:
.(1) Tell the truth. A lie
will catch up with you sooner or
later. •
(2.) Arm yourself with your„
doctor's report giving,you a clean
bill of health.
(3) Enlist the help of a Can-
, ada Manpower °lacer. He will
get you• an interview with an
employer he has already
briefed on the illness bit.
(4) Consider new job train-
ing as part of your rehabilita-

DEAR DORIS - My mother is
contemplating marriage again.
after being a widow for lt) years.
Her new gentleman friend wants
to buy her an expensive diamond
and she is quite willing to accept
this, but she seems loath to put
aside her old rings.
Can she wear,„ the two en-
gagement rings - one on each
hand'? This stifkes . m.e as being
a little too much •of a good thing,
much and all as I love diamonds.
-WHAT'S PROTOCOL
DEAR PROTOCOL - It is often
done - and quite properly. One
on each hand. Just as long as
the old wedding ring is stowed
away.
She should be sure she giWes
no impression of still living in
the past. And just never makes
any kinds of comparison - odious
or otherwise - between her two
'husbands
DEAR DORIS -• When a boy
and girl break up after going
steady for almost a year, how
do you' go about returning gifts?
Do you return all- the gifts
including the small ones which
are trinket's and not expensive?
Would a person return a gift
such .as a white fur bonnet which
cost about $8. after she had worn
it for quite a while?
- BRUNET
DEAR BRUNET - blot the little.'
gifts, but anything ,expensive
shotild be given back - like a
radio, or record player, or va-
luable jewelry. And" not an $8.
.fu'r bonnet, which is proa.biy
well-worn by now.'
Just .wrap up any such thing,
and send it through the mail; or
drop it off at his house with a
note saying you have enjoyed the
gift as well as the friendship,
but feel he should now have the
gift back.
