Wrestling
An activity Abet so far this
year has received•little attention,
other than from the, students and
staff actively involyed, is wrest-
ling. Is it because practices take
place in the 'dark confines' of the
students' lounge, or because mat-
ches• are always playing concur-
rently with the basketball games,
er because wrestling has been
' traditionally regarded as a man's
sport that no-one seems to know
just 'what is going on? Anyway, our
boys were hosts for the visiting
Wingham team in 'a tournament
last Wednesday and showed the
student body what it had been
missing. Of the nine matches,
Seaforth was victorious in six,
tied in one and loser in only•two.
•Mr. Eric Judge, coach and
trainer, reporti that 'we could
use more wrestlers next year.
There are fourteen categories
and right now we can compete in
only 9.'
Team members include Paul •
Blake, Philip Blake, Steven •
Blockheel, Don . Jewitt, Larry
Jewitt, Casey Jones, Bruce
Knight, Stuart Scoft, Jim Stoll and
Jim Thompson.
Considering the showing• the
wrestling team has made in other
years, we think bOth CoachJudge
and the boys shoUld be congratu-
lated. •
Cifrling
The curling club meets every
Tuesday 'and Thursday ,under the ,
management of Mr. Cosford. So
far this season, the team has'
curled' in Mitchell and Exeter.
They played Miltchell here on
•'" Tuesday evening. ,
Math Club
The junior math club has been
00
having regular meetings direc-
ted by Mr. Murdie. They will
soon be preparing for the math
contest which Will be written
later this spring. Good luck to
our up-and-coming mathemati-
cians! •
Girls' Hockey
SDI-IS'.s female Gordie Howe s
have been practising hard arid
proved their skill on Saturday-
when they downed Blyth
score of 7-4. Sheila Dietz was
responsible for ,5 goals and Gail
Nolan for 2 of the 7 go/is...This
•win was an effective conclusion
to Minor Hockey Week.
Stamp 'Club •
Another club which is under-
going a popularity swing is the
Stamp Club. Headed by Mr. Ted
Cosford, this organization pro-
vides student philatelists with
the opportunity to exchange, dis;
.cuss and collect stamps. Although
the membership is small, all, in-
volved feel that they are 'learning
through doing'.
Chalk Street Journal -
Rumour has it that the staff
of our illustriods school newS-
paper has been conducting a sec-
ret survey on the topic of 'Stu-
dent Apathy at SDHS. What do
you think? Apparently, of those
polled, 29.3% 'didn't care', 45.2%
Made 'no comment' and 15.5%-.
were 'undecided'. Maybe what
we need is a little school spirit,
eh? So• before engaging in an
outburst of uncontrollable move-
merit, i.e. 'having a fit', buy a
copy of the Chalk Street Journal
and see just- what it's all about.
