in Clinton Community Hospital
, where they underwent surgery.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hoy
attended the funeral of the
0 former's brother, Mr. George
Hoy of Kitchener. While at-
tending the funeral Mr. Hoy took
very ill and is confined to his
home in Hensall where he is
resting comfortably.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert 'Cook
attended the funeral in Learn- * ington last Eriklay of the latters
brother, Mr. Vernereldebrand,
34, of Leamington.
Mrs. Grace Peck has returned
after spending several weeks with

ing of Amber Rebekah Lodge
Wednesday evening. A number
of members were absent with

able. Plans were discussed to
invite the 1969 student.,who,. had

U.C.W. SETS DATES '
The executive of Hensall Unit-
ed Church"' Women met Monday
afternoon. The president, Mrs.
Vern Alderdice chaired the meet-
ing and' the minutes were read
by the secretary, Mrs. Jack
Drysdale. It was decided to
hold the general meetings on
February 23 in charge of . unit
2. May 25 in charge of unit
1 and Sept. 28 in charge of unit
4. The annual meeting will le
held Nov. 23 and a special
Christmas meeting will be
held Dec. 14th. Worlds Day of
Prayer is set for March 6th.
It was planned to have "All
Fools Day supper at the church
Wednesday, April 1.

Miss Marion Trebner of the
Brucefield Public School, now
in Germany, fractured , her leg
while skiing •and is' hospitalized.

to learn of the tragic passing of

the late Mrs. John R. Murdock
who passed away in Hamilton

King' Carnival reigned, sup-
reme Saturday, when Minor
Hockey Week in Canada offici-
o ally opened at the Classic ,City
Arena, Stratford.
Besides hockey, there were
bands, drum majorettes, a parade
and television personnel on hand
to prpvide two days of Inn and
entertainment.
• The weekend was highlighted
by the International Minor Hockey
Tournament between-Detroit Ma-
vericks and Bob's TV'in peewee
competition, and Detroit Mar-
, quettes and Y's Men An bantam.
Both series were two-games
tonal-goals, with the Jack Hood
• Trophy being awarded- to the
peewee champion ,arid the mar-
ten's Sports Trophy to the winner
of the bantam series.
The two days' program opened
0'
with a ' hockey game between
teams ),•aretrentine the various
snowmobile events..
' On Saturday afternoon there
also' will be free skating in the
Arena and the Hensall Legion
will' be 'serving weiners and beans
in the picnic Pavillion. A feature
of the Saturday night performance
will be an exhibition hockey game
between the Hensel' Kinsmen and
'the. Zigich Lions Club. Hensall
Tykes will play in a house league
game and the Hensall Mites will
entertain the Clinton Mites.
There will be bingo in the Arena
auditoriuni..
During the afternoon on Sa-
turday, judges will be at work
viewing the snow sculptures
throughout the village, for which
the Hensall Council are awarding
prize. money.
A highlight of the .Sunday af-
ternoon program at the Arena
will be an OHA Junior 'D' Ho-
ckey game .between the Lambeth
• Flyers and the Zurich libininions.
Following the hockey game there
will be the burning of Christmas
trees at the park,•
The hockey events at the Car-
nival •are being supervised by',
the Hensall Minor Athletic, As-
ciciation with . Iry Elliott in
charge.

Service clubs in Stratford. Lloyd
Weltoh, executive director,
Stratford YM-YWCA coached one
team, Hugh Edighoffer, MPP for
Perth, masterminded the other.
The Edighoffers were the win-
ners, 4-3.
In the tournament games,
Stratford and Detroit broke even.
Bob's • TV won The Jack Hood
Trophy when they turned back the
Mavericks 6-0 Saturday and 6-1
Sunday to capture the series 12-1.
A big well-coached Detroit
Marquette sextet won the bantam
series and the Marten's Sports
Trophy by holding Stratford Y's
Men to a two-all deadlock Satur-
day before 'overcoming a 3-1
deficit Sunday with four straight
goals to nip the blue shirts 5-3
and Win, the series 7-5.

The bride is the daughter of

Rev. Derwyn Docken chaired
the meeting, opening.with singing
hymn 441, 'Guide Me, Oh Thou
Great Jehovah'. with Mrs. Camp-
bell Wey as pianist. The minister
chose as his scripture reading
Paul's first letter of Corinth,
followed by prayer.
' Mrs. Harvey Craig was ap-
pointed secretary,

in memory of the members. that
had passed away in the last -year:
Tribute was paid to Martin Baan
for his many faithful years of -
service as Sunday School
Superintendent.
Rev. Docken wilt take the
month of July for his- holiday's
and the Church.. will be 'closed
for the four Sundays. The anni-
versary services wereannounced
for the third Sunday of September.
It was suggested that the event
be well advertized in the papers.
Alvin McDonald expressed a
vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs.
Docken for their help. in the past
year.

held in the Walton Community
Hall Friday evening. Prize win-

MURDOCH
Mrs. Janet Murdoch, highly
esteemed resident of Brucefield,
and wilo of the late John R. Mur-
doch, passed away in Henderson
General Hospital, Hamilton on
Saturday, January 24th, after a
lengthy illness, in her 83rd Year.
She was the former Janet laa-.
bell McBeath.
The late Mrs. Murdoch was •
organist and chqvir leadek in•
-Brucefield Presbyterian Church
from 1908 to 1912, organist and
choir leader in Carmel Presby-
terian Church. Hensall, from,
1937 to 1943, organist' and choir
leader in what became Brucefield
United Church from 1949 to 1963.
In addition to church work, Mrs
Murdoch gave much pleasure to
many people through her orches-
tra activities.
Surviving are one son, Wil-
liam. Dundas; two daughters,
(Audrey) Mrs. S. G, Rumble,
Toronto; (June) Mrs.William
Duncan. Miami. Florida: and
eight grandchildren. A daughter,
Beth, predeceased her.
Public funeral Services were
held from the flonthron Funeral
Home, Hensall. Tuesday, January
27th, at 2 p.m.. conducted by Rev.
" D. E. Stuart who paid fitting tri-
bute to her life. Burial was in
Baird's Cemetery.

Benjamin C. Rising, 87, of
Seaforth. died Sunday in SeafOrth
Community Hospital following a
long illness.
Born in Champaign, Illinois,
he was married to the former
Ethel Cole in Mahomet, Illinois,
in 1909. He came to Canada in
1919 and lived in Winthrop where
he farmed. Ile moved to Seaforth
in 1948. He was a mail carrier
for man years until his retire-
ment in T064.

zations 'have combined their of
forts to produce the annual Winter
Carnival 'scheduled for this week-
end. The proceeds from this
year s event are ear-marked for
renovations to the Hensall Arena;
The Winter Carnival actively
* will get under way on Friday
night, when three Hensall Minor
Hockey teams, the Novices, Pee-
wees and Bantams, will play
host Jo Iwo teams from Adastral
Park, Clinton. Later in the even-
ing judging of the candidates in
the Snow Queen contest will take
• place and the winner will be
crowned at the Carnival Dance
in the Arena auditorium. -,The
Hensall 'Western Horsemen orga-
nization are supervising the Fri-
' day night dance and crowning of
' the Queen; •
A parade will kick off the pro-
* gram on Saturday. Snowmobiles
and fleets have already been
entered and the Seaforth District
High School Girl's Trumpet Band
will add color to the event. Hen-
sail Kinsmen are supervising the
parade.
Throughout the afternoon on
O. Saturday, following the paradb,
there will be a heavy schedule
of novelty'and timed snowrnobile
events. Snowmobile rides will
also be available to those wishing
them. Don ,Mousseau and Bob
Caldwell are in charge of the

Education Consultant with the
Huron-Perth Separate School
Board, is organizing the event
Which will feature teams made
up from the Separate' schools in
Seaforth, St. Columban, Dublin,
Kinkora arid Hesson.
The same Detroit teams will
supply the opposition. The games
will be played in Seaforth on a
Saturday and then the teams will
travel to Exeter for MS SeCond
series on the following Sunday.

garding this event will appear
next week.
Delegates to the annual mom -
ing of the Ontario Liberal Assoc-
iation were named at a Meeting of
the Huron Federal Liberal As-
sociation in Clinton Thursday
evening.
The delegates named were

Krauter: Brussels. Roy Westcott,
Exeter, Ivan Kalbfleisch, Zurich
Paul Steckle, Zurich and Mrs.
Jean Lunn, Egmondville Gordon
McGavin as pregident of the
Association will also attend.
