Tuesday night, December 22,
was the date for the Student
Council's Christmas Dance. The
gym. was packed With a crowd of
over six hundred students dancing
to the music df "The Blues
Syndicate". . Students from
Clinton, Mitchell and other sur-
rounding schools had been invited
but most of those at the dance
were from our own school.
Although the dress had been
advertised as casual, many came
dressed up for the festive season.
Staff members present for the
evening were Mr.' Hook, Mr.
Judge and Mr. Cosford.
During the course of the even-
ing, • student council president,
Neil MacDonald, announced the
Junior Snow Queen, as elected hy
the students.- Miss Margie Eckert
of 9B,-received a bouquet of red
roses and was crowned snow
queen by our, ,queen of the formal,
Miss Cynthia Newnham. Each of
the other seven contestants re-
ceived a red rose.
. The yearbook staff sponsogec
a raffle for fifteen dollars, pro-
ceeds to help lower the price of
this year's yearbook. Tills draw
was als,o made on Tuesday even-
ing
,
by Cynthia. The Winning
ticket was held by Melannie Matz-
old of Grade 13.
We're proud to say that this
year's Christmas dance was the
best. we've had in several years
and congratulate our hard-work-
ing student council on its success.

Back After
88 Years
Onions which have continued -
to grow in Manitoba for 88 years •
have been returned to Walton
from where they were taken in
1881.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dunk who
moved .froin Toronto to Walton
last'isummer were out west on
a trip and called on..:. his
relative Charles Banyard in
Neepawa, Manitoba.
During their visit they dis-
covered that Mrs. Banyard's
mother, the former Margaret
McNab had lived in the. Walton
area and had moved with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
McNab to the west in 1881.Among
the supplies they took-with them
at that time '-were onion 'seeds
grown in the garden at their
home which Mrs. Banyard re- ,
calls being ,told was .a mile or
so from, Walton and six miles
from Brussels.
Mr. and M. Dunk brought
the onions back with them and
will plant them in their garden
next spring re-establishing an
association with Huron soil after
an interruption of 88 years.

In Sunday scho-01 a little boy
was. "supposed to be learning about
Ruth but was not paying ,much
attention. When 'the teacher ask-
ed' him what he had learned
about the story of Ruth, he answ-
ered:. 'Well, he hit.-'60 home
runs in one season!'
