FUNERAL
RAY H. CARPENTER
The sudden death took place
in Toronto on December 27th
of Ray Hertel Carperiter,' a for-
mer resIdeat of Seaforth..
Born in Chicago. the son of
the late Catherine Armstrong
and Alvin Carpenter, he came
to Seaforth as a youth and, fol-
lowing the" death of his mother,
resided with an aunt, the late
Mrs. 0. A. Sills and Mr. sills.
For a number of years, Mr,
Carpehter was on the staff' of
the Canadian Bank of Commerce.
He served 'in the First War
with the 161st Battalion. In re-
cent years he was associated
with the John Howard Society.
He is survived by his wife;
the former Maude McVean Of
Dresden and by a sister, Geral-
dine Smith, now living in the
Boston,- Mass. area.
Following a service at Tur-
ner and Porter Yorke at,
on December 29th. interment was
made hi Park Lawn Cemetery,
Toronto.

Bert Moggach pr'esided over
an ' impromptu' meeting of the
Fireside Group on Tuesday even-
ing- 'when William, 'Brown was
named president, to take the
place of Mr: Moggach, who is
moving to Markdale.
Miss Belle Campbell , as the
guest. speaker, spoke on “Fear
and' Worry", and was thanked by
Scott Cluff, Frank, Kling'
welcomed :William Brown to the
position of president. •
John Cardno expressed good
wishes to Mr. and Mrs. MOggach
on -leaving town .and presented
them with a gift.

Huron County Hoard of EdnCa-
lion has agreed that -a Qrade 9
Boys' Occupations Course be es-
tablished at 'South 'Huron ' Dist-
rict High, School fdr the school
year 1970-71. -
Indications are that the edot-
pations courses at Central Huron"
Secondary inClinton will be over-
crowded next fa/1; South- Huron
High Scho'cil has the space and
almost all the equipment re-
quired to establish such a course.
The occupations courses were'
described-by.. Gordon -Moir ••e.,s
'probably the best thing that came
out of the Robarts plan for edu-
cation'. 'This 'cotirse is for stu-
dents who have not graduated_
• from elementary school. but, be--
cause of age and ability. have
been promoted to thesiccupations
classes.
The Board also has given ap-
proval to the establishment of
an ec..upations department at
Central Huron Secondary School
,with George Cull as department
head. This will be on a trial
basis for one year, retroactive
to September 1. 1969,
The Board •learne.d that tea-
chers involved in the occupations
course have felt that• too little-
time was devoted at staff mee-
tings to, the' unique prebleres
they encountered, and desired
that the occupations ,ceurse be-
com aoa separate department with
a department headto co-ordinate
'planning and beneficial discus-
sions.
The Board also adopted a
policy not to pay travelling ex-
penses for night school instruc-
tors, • •
