Effective October 1 ',1974
Ontario's new minimum wage, covers people employed in general
industry, construction work, domestic service, ambulance service,
funeral service,, including students an,d learners.
If you or your employees fall into these categories, it is important
for you to know what the law now requires. , .
People employed by agencies 'as domestics, and people work-
ing,as' funeral directors or embalmers must now be paid not Tess than
$2.25 an hour. Learners in General industry must be paid -at least
$2.15. an hour during, their first month of employment and 'at least
$2.25 per hour. thereafter. People employed in construction work or
as construction site guards are now entitled to at least $2.50 an hour.
There is no learner rate for the construction industry. Ambulance
drivers, helpers, and first-aid attendants must now receive at least
$108.00 per week or, if they work fewer than 48'hours a week, $2.25
an hour. Students under 18 who work 28 hours a week or Tess, or
during school holidays, must receive at least $1.90 per hour.
When employees occupy a room or eat meals supplied by their
employer-, $9.00 per week for the room and $1.00 for each meal or
$21.00 per week for meals ,or $30.00 a week for room and meals
may be included when calculating the minimum wage.
As for overtime pay, until December 31, 1974, it will be 1 Y2 times
the regular pay after 48 hours a week. From January 1, 1975 on,
the time -and -one-half rate will apply after 44 hours a week. And from
January 1, 1975 on, there will be three more holidays with pay—New
Year's Day, Victoria Day, and Thanksgiving Day—added to the
current statutory holidays: Good Friday, Dominion Day, Labour Day;
and Christmas.

Zippy Trinettes
The fifth meeting of the Zippy
Trinnettes was held October. 1st in
the church basement at 7.00 p.m.
Vice president Karen Campbell
called the meeting to .order and all
stood and repeated the 4-H pledge.
Roll call was answered by 14
members present. To start the
business, Joan Hackett read the
minutes of the last meeting .and
Susan Irvin read the business
minutes. Home assignments were
taken up. The next meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. Cameron
because " the . members will be
participating in making cup cakes.
Mrs. Cameron discussed themes
for parties, decorations, 'entertain-
ment and the party. Mrs. D. A.
Hackett discussed invitations and
replies. The members practised
writing replies to a formal invita-
tion. Mrs. Cameron and Mrs. D.
A. Hackett demonstrated a table
centre for a Thanksgiving Theme.
Eager
Entertainers
The fifth meeting of the Kairshea
Eager Entertainers was held at the
Institute Hall on Thursday, October
3 after school.
We opened with the pledge. The
secretary called the roll and the
minutes were read.. Mrs. Haldenby
discussed "Party Ideas".
The next meeting isto be held at
Maclntyre's home on Monday.,
October 7 after school.
The Entertainers
The fifthmeeting of the Lucknow
t#1 4-H club, The Entertainers, took
place in the tucknow Central
Public School on Thursday, Octob=
er 3td at 7.00 p.m. The meeting
was opened by the president.
Nancy Ritchie. The 4-H Pledge
was then repeated by ten members
and two leaders.
The secretary, Joanne Ritchie,
read the minutes of the previous
meeting. The treasurer's report
was then given by the club
treasurer, Ruth Alton. The design
for the cover of the books was
chosen. The meeting was turned
over to the club leaders. The
discussion for the meeting was
Party Ideas. The meeting closed by
repeating the 4-H Creed.
Party Pals
The fifth meeting of the Clover
Valley Party Pals was held at the
home of Joan Osborne on October
4th at 7:15. The president, Lynn
Elphick, opened the meeting with
the 4-H pledge followed by the roll
call which was answered by all 8
members.

The next meeting is being held at
the home of Pamela McIntosh on
October 8 at 7.15.
The meeting was turned over to
the leaders who led in discussion of
party ideas, themes for parties,
invitations and replies, decora-
tions, entertainment and the party.
Mrs. Elphick demonstrated making
a table centre for a special
occasion. For group work we
discussed our plans for our club
pat,y.
We closed our meeting with the
4-H creed. A lovely lunch of small
cakes and juice folk,wed which was
served by the hostess.
