He has reached his 60th.year. J. C. , as he is known to many in this community where he was. born, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Durnin. Jim joined' the London force in March. 1942. Most of his' years with the department have been as a detective with -the mor- ality and criminal investigation department. Would Det. Durnin on his last day, recommend police work to anyone?, No. he said. Respect for .police is not -what it used to be.. In the "old days" the public had far more respect for police- men, he said, and. would often assist an officer, if he got into trouble. Many times, he recalled, per- sons he had previously locked "up would give }nim a hand if he got into a braw.l in a beverage room or on the street. "Now, we all know , they just stand around and will even cheer on the man the officer is trying to subdue. Det. Durnin also had some harsh words for the Bail Reform Act.
