Bruce. South District W.I. Annual
Meeting Held In Ripley, 115 Present
On May 21st Bruce South Dist-
rict Women"; Institute held it;
annual in the United Church',
Pipley. with 115 members present.
The District president Mrs. Jas.
Kirkpatrick called the meeting to
'order and the members were. wel-
comed by Rev. Carnochan and
Mrs,., Graham Cook, President of
Ripley Branch. Mrs. Raynard
Ackert was song leader for the
day with Mrs. MacPherson at the
"piano.
The standing conveners gave
their annual reports .and were
pleased to announce 10(go
reporting in each convenership. It
was nice to see so many of the
ladies wearing the Bruce tartan,
also the Glengarry hats
made by the W.I. members, as
their contribution to the advertis-
ing of the international plowing
match to be held near Walkerton
in 1976. Mrs. Frances Gemmell
gave a full report of her work as
Provincial board member from th
district. She enjoyed the year al-
though it meant a busy year for
her.
Whitechurch branch entertained
in the morning with two humor-
ous readings. Ripley, the hostess
branch, served a delicious meal
at noon and asked the ladies t'o
come to the Sunday School rooms
after the meeting for a cup of
tea and a snack.
Mrs. Donald•Blue gave a splendid
talk on the museum at Southamp-

She had a very good display of
articles displaying the tartans.
These articles may be purchased
in a number of local stores., /
Mrs. Stewart Farrell, Curator,
gave a report of her duties and
explained how the members could
help with material for the
Tweedsmuir Book. 'Mrs. Burton
Hodgins spoke on the work of the
Federation of Agriculture and Mrs.
Ronald Slade gave an outline of
the folkschools and •
Adult Education.
The memoriam for the deceas-
ed members was given by Tees -
water branch.
Mrs. Gemmell presided for the
ratification of District Directors
for the next year.
.District President Mrs. Jas. Kirk
patrick spoke on the theme
"Happiness" and presented the past
secretary Mrs. Angus MacLeod
with a F. W,.I.C. badge from the
district.
Displays,besides Mrs. Blue's tar-
tans, were Mrs. Oliver McCharles'
china painting which she explin-
ed to the ladies as to quality of
china and general procedure of
firing. Creative Stitchery by
Armow branch and ,tailoring by
Kairshea .
Greetings were brought from
Bruce North, Bruce East , Centre
Bruce and Grey South districts and
the Grey Bruce Area.
Bervie Branch provided the en-
tertainment for the afternoon.
A skit "The meeting comes to
order" was given. Miss Barbara
De Visscher , Home Economist told
of the events corning up, short
courses, workshop; and 4-H work.
Miss De Visscher presided for
the election of officers. Past Pres -
ident; Mrs. Jas. Kirkpatrick, Box

were speakers for the anniversary
and Mrs. J. • W. Joynt of Lucknow
was guest soloist. In connection
with the celebrations the church
members staged a monster garden
party in the skating rink followed
by a concert. • Prior to the supper
there was a Aoftball game between
Lucknow Scho61 team and a St.
Helens team.

The local Brass Band was reor-
ganized. , The following officers
were elected: President, E. Aitch
ison,' Band Master., D. C. McMor-
ran; Secretary -Treasurer, A-. E.
ivlillson; Executive Committee,
J. Scrimegeour, H. Allin, H.
Gordon, H. Anderson and E. Cam-
eron.
Earl Begley, had taken the posi-
tion of engineer and fireman at the
Lucknow Table Factory.
Lucknow's oldest business man
moved to Hamilton. W/illiam Ged•
des., a resident of Lucknow( for 51
years, sold his home on Willough-
by Street to Walter Webb of West
Wawanosh. Mr. Geddes continued
his coopering_business'here, com-
ing to Lucknow each season to
look after the apple -barrel trade.
