The„slogan for Police Week,
May 18 to May 25 is "We Need
Our Cops". The Kincardine area
of the O.P.P. sponsored an essay
contest. The 'following entry
written, by Chuck Huntington.,
Grade 8 won first place.
Wk NEED OUR COPS
Walking down the street at
night you see two men roughing
up an old man. You hurry by; you
don't want to get involved.
Looking put the window you, see
a man entering your neighbours
house with a flashlight.- Closing
your curtains you go back and
don't get•involved.
Then comes the night when
you're that Man.being beaten up
or having your house burglarized ,
or suffering any number of other
violent crimes or robberies. You
wondered why no one tried to
help you.' It's the same reason
as you had: "I don't want to get
involved" .
We can thank God, someone
wants to get involved. ,Our
police fuzz, cops, what ever you
choose to call them do. They
are there, for your 'own good.
If one gives you a ticket for
speeding don't argue with him;
policemen are usually fair. Still
they are only htman. "PLEASE"
try not to make their job rough.
Just think what might have hap-
pened if he had let you go on
speeding at ninety miles an hour'
in a sixty-mile art hour zone.
Can you imagine the mess your
car would be if it had hit another
car or had gone'out of control,
not to mention what you'd look
like "pushini up daisies".
Remember ! Cops do want to
get involved and help you. It's
their 'job
Bill was there on' May 4 when
Cannonade won the Derby.. How-
ever, in a muddy "off" track
Cannonade with the same, jockey,
Angel Cordero, was third. It was
quite an education on the telecast
to see the saddling operations of
the horses and also the varied act-
•
ivities of the people on the infield
at Pimlico. Thirteen horses parad
ed on to the, track to the strains
of the song 1 Maryland, My Mary-
land".
In three weeks the third race in'
the Triple Crown will be run, on
Saturday, June 8'. On Saturday
the horse Little Current was the
winner with Miguel Rivera of Puer-
to Rico the jockey, a friend of
Angel Cordero. Another jockey
riding was the well known Sandy
Hawley who was a challenger 'on
Front Page Challenge last Satur-
day evening -, a taped weekly
show. '
