Requisition Shows
12.7% Increase
The'Rruce County Board of Ed-
ucation will requisition
$2,918,500 from its 31 municipal-
ities this year , an increase of
12.7 per cent over 'the ,1973 re-
quirement.
The increase is partly cushion-
ed by a 3.5 percent increase in
county assessment and a. $209,000
surplus from last year.
The 1973 levy, also reduced by
a surplus carried over', was
$2;588,000, a drop of nearly
$200,00ofrOm 1972.
Finance committee chairman
Alan Whicher of Wiarton present-
ed a $13 ,393 ,622 budget for this
year, an increase of $814,722"or
6.5 percent over the 1973 total.
He said that the increase in
county assestment, while making
more money available to the .
board, also adversely affects the
provincial grant rates.
Eletipentary grants will remain
about the sartie at 70 per cent, but
the grant for secondary education
is expected to fall to about 72 per
cent from 75.
Operation costs for this year are
estimated about $200,000 higher
than in 1973, while transportation
expenses of $1,350,000 show a
$100,000 increase. Maintenance
costs will drop about $90,000 to
$490,000.
