PAGE 1 will be further interference by the Lucknow Agricultural Society in the affairs of the Lucknow Sum• mer Craft Festivar. Some member;s of theLucknow Agricultural Society , who fated their opinion at the meet- ' ihg, expressed surprise at the let- ter and its contents. The opinion was expressed by some that the Craft Festival and its committee was a sub committee under the operation pf the sponsoring group ,- Luctiow Agricultural Society. PAGE TWEIITYTWO Reference was made to the min- utes of•January 1971, •the annual meeting of the LUcknow Agricul- tural Society, when several people ade an approach to the Lucknow Agricultural Society asking for support in the launching' of a new hand craft show, later to be known as the Lucknow Surnmer Craft Festival. • Some Lucknow Agricultural Soc- iety officers, who expressed them- „selves, believe the Festival has been under iociety control and direction since that time. Presid.ent of the. Agricultural Society Omar Brooks, als-ca mem- ber of the Craft,Festival Commit- tee , stated that he concurred .with :the action of the members of the Craft Festival Committee who; had sought legal advice and had auth- orized the legal letter to be writ- ten•to the Agricultural Society. Some' Agricultural Society members were not in agreement will'', an application by some mem- bers of the Craft Festival Com- mittee for a goVernment grant to., be used in, construction ola new 'building. The application was made late last year. Permission • was not sought from the .Agricul- tural Society to do this:. This incident provided fuel for much criticism of the manner in which the Festival Committee had oper- ated. The grant was not approv- ed.. The meeting., which started at about 8.30 , ended at about 2.20 a. TT] . In addition to their'legal letter', The Craft. Festival members who were involved in the sending of the lawyer's letter, had a'recom- mendation on what to do with some of the profits from the three festivals which total about $6500. Their recommendation was that $2500 be donated to the Luck7 now. Lions Club Swimming Pool. Fund to help defray, the existing debt on the pool change rooms. This was put as a motion before the meeting. An amendnient to the motion was that the money and account remain as is until legal advice is sought by the board of 'directors concerning who owns the Craft Festival. -• The amendment carried'. A. motion was passed by, the board of directors of the Lucknow Agricultural Society to seek legal 'advice on .their position with the Lucknow Summer Craft Festival. The general meeting of the Lucknow Agrictiltural SOciety ad- journed at 1 a.m, and a meeting of the board of directors followed. A motion was put before the directors "That the directors of the Lucknow Agricultural Society have lost their Confidence in the president and they ask for his resignation”. The motionJwas voted on and passed. A the profits of the Festival have been turned over to the Lucknow Agricultural Society. The profits of the 1973 Festival are at present in the Craft Festival account and some Festival executive_ members had proposals concerning this mon- ey. Some Festival committee mem- bers, Who. expressed their opinion, stated that the profits haVe been lying in the bank-for 2 1/2 years and put to no constructive use and that they wished to see something done with the Festival profits. • Some, members of the Agricul- tural Society stated that lack Of ''direction and leadership 'by 'the president of the society was the reason that no action had been taken to date ! Reference Was made to needed improvements at the park, but that no meetings had been called to discuss this matter. Some i members of the Craft Festival committee complained Of lack of,co-opetation by the Agricultuta1 .Society, repeated criticism by society executive members of some of the Festival committee and lack of being in- cluded in all decisions related to the Craft• 'Festival. President Omar Brooks did not .f• submit his resi3nation and the members of the executive are seeking legal advice on their posi• tiOn on this matter ana with the Craft Festival, Bob Gilchrist, a past president, was appointed acting chairman for the remainder of the directors meeting and until another directors meeting is called, Mr. Brooks, serving. his, second . term as president of Lucknow Agri-cuttura 1 Society has served a two year term as 1st vice president, a 1 year term as' 2nd vice, 2 years as a director and 6 years as an associate director. He has also served -on the, Craft Festival com- mittee.
