PERFORMANCE' PLUS BULL
SALE
The Ontario Beef Cattle Per-
formance Association is sponsor-
ing its second sale of high index-
ing station tested bulls. on Satur-
day, April 27, commencing at
1:00 p.m. at the Arkell Test'
Station, just south of Guelph. In
order to be eligible for this sale,,
bulls must be within the top one-
third indexing bulls of their breed
or cross, Since the bulls will
just have completed test they will
be approximately ,12 to 13 months
of age.
This sale is the second hf its
kind in Ontario and emphasis will
be placed,. on INDEX of rate of
gain during the test period. Act-
ual rate of gain figures are only
meaningful if they can be corn-
Tared to some standard. The IN-
DEX on rate of gain accom-
plishes this by comparing.the in-
dividual bull's performance• rel-
ative to the average performance
of the .group in which ,it 'was fed
and to the average of the `breed.
The INDEX for breed average is
100 and consequently the -INDEX
readily identifies ,whether or not
a young bull's ability to transmit
growth to its offspring is above
or below breed' average and by
how much. The range of INDICES
for young bulls which• have been
station tested and indexed to date
is from 75 to 135. Only bulls which
have achieved an index in the top
one-third of this range will be el-
igible for this• sale.
There are approximately 450
' bulls from which to choose, but a
maximum of 75 bulls of all breeds
will be sold.

the colleges governing the pro-
fessions.
The first six parts of the Act

The act would replace existing
legislation such as the Medical
Act.
Still with health services,
Health Minister Frank Miller ,
tabled the Mustard Report which
recommends. the setting of quotas
to limit the, number of doctors
practicing.in different areas of
Ontario and which is likely to be
one of the 'most contentious recom-
mendations, of the report.
Ontario has one of the most
favourable doctor-patient ratios
in the Western world , one doctor
for every 586 people , but doctors
are poorly distributed , the report
noted,.
