Winner Of Post
Graduate Award

Mrs. Corinne Davies , a member
of the teaching staff of the Walk-
ertion District Secondary School,
was among those listed as having
been chosen throughout. Ontario
to 'receive special 'post graduate
scholarships.
About 100.0 Ontario. Graduate
Scholarships , for academic excel-
lence , were announced by the
ministry of colleges and universit-
ies.
Scholarship winners receive tui-
tion fees phis $800 a term for a
maxirritun of three consecutive
years.
, The winners were chosen by a
seven-man selection board assisted
by 35 Scholars from the province's
15 provincially-supported univer-
sities.
Corinne, a recent graduate of .
the. Faculty of Music at Western
University in London, has been
teaching music in Walkerton. She
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John C. MacDonald who reside
just west, of Ripley. ,
Corinne and her husband Gerry
have been living in. Mildmay and
travelling back ana forth 'to Walk ,
erton.
Festival is an autonomous associa-
tion with its own officers—and can-
not be dictated to by the Lucknow
Agricultural Society. Funds that
were deposited 'in the account of
the Lucknow Summer Craft Festiv-
al were transferred on December
1st 1973 to the Lucknow Agricul-
tural Society. This transfer was
done without the authority of the
Summer Craft Festival or its offic-
ers and was completely illegal.
This money has since been trans- .
ferred back to the account of the'
Lucknow Summer Craft Festival.
While it is the intention of the
Summer Craft Festival to' turn over
to the Lucknow Agricultural Socie-
ty the proceeds of the 1973 Festiv-
al, we wish to point out that the
Lucknow Summer Craft Festival
will not be asking the Agricultural
Society for any assistance in 1974
and will be operating the festival
independently of the Agricultural
The resignation of M..L. Sand-
erson as Justice .of The Peace for
the village was received at the
April meeting of LucknoW Village
Council. Discussion centred on
the necessity for an appointment
to be made. The name of E. H I
Agnew of Lucknow was suggested--
as one. who might serve this office.
Mr. Sariderson, who recently clos-
ed his clothing store in the vil-
lage , is now a resident of Goder-
ich.
Village. Council recently found
it necessary to heavily prune some

Israel where he will assist in
the erection of two- homes for the
firm, Precision Homes of Toronto,
Another one of„ the men who will
be involved with the installation
is Hans Doerge of Huntsville ,
formerly of Point Clark.
The .prefabridated homes will
serve as show homes for the Can-
adian firm with hopes of expan-
sion into a foreign' market.
The group will'be away about
three weeks. •
Car Overturns,
Hits Hydro Pole
A single vehicle collision about
8.30 p.m. on Tuesday night of
last week occurred in the east end
.of the village, opposite the resid-
ence of Mrs. Syd Whitby.
Stephen McDougall, 17, R. R.
2 Wingham, was proceeding west
on Campbell Street, Highway 86,
when the car went out of control,
went up on the sidewalk and
struck a hydro pole in front of the
Whitbyresidence, breaking the
pole off. •
The car overturned and Luck-
now Fire Department was called
when flames broke out.
The driver and his passenger,
Jot% Moir , R. R. 2 Wingham,
also 17, received minor injuries.
The car was a total loss with dam•
age estimated at WO,
Kincardine Ontario Provincial
'Police investigated.

where the lightning,struck.
The building was inspected by
'electric contractor Ted Collyer
on Monday. ' He, is Of the opinion
that the lightning struck high on
the church and grounded on the -
hydro wiring. Damage was light,,
but the experience is one the Sun-

Two Fire Calls
Luclmow Fire Department an-
swered two calls in- the past week.
On Wednesday morning of last
week a grass fire just north of the,
mill in St. Helens took them to
St. Helens.
On. Sunday afternoon, in the
midst of an electrical and heavy
rain storm , firemen were called
to the farm of Bob Howard on.
Highway 21, near Kingsbridge.
It was thought that the barn had,
been struck by lightning and that
smoke had been seen coming from
the structure, -Firemen checked /
the barn inside and out and found
no sign of a lightning strike nor
fire. •
Three Way
Contest For Bruce
Liberal Condidate
The contest to replace retiring
member of parliament Ross
Whicher as the federal Liberal
candidate 'for the riding of Bruce
became a three-way race last
week.
Crawford Douglas, 43, sports
director of radio station CKNX,
announced he would seek the Lib-
eral nomination April 19 in Walk-
erton.
Mr. Whicher announced in Dec-
ember he would retire at the end
of the present ,term of parliament.
A former Wiarton mayor, Mr.
Whicher first won the riding of
Bruce in the 1968 general- election.
The two other men seeking the
nomination are' Don Hoist of Han-
over and Bob- Pringle of
Southampton .
