In addition to r those in last week's edition of this paper', Mr. and Mrs. Morgan John • stop, who recently sold their farms about three miles° east of Ripley'on the 8th concession to- wards Holyrood, bought the parc- el of land on Malcolni street from Mrs. John Robertson known as, Huron Market. It contains several' building lots and,has on it the workshop of the late John Robert- son 7. Ripley's great carpenter who constructed sChools , churches , cottages and homes generally un- equalled, in. quality of workman- ship today. The Huron Market , once scene of the Ripley Huron fall fair , is across the road on Malcolm street , from the former Thompson nursing home , now an apartment building. This was for many years the home of the late , Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morgan 'Sr., - Morgan Johnston's grandparents and also of his mother , Mrs. Elliott Johnston. * * * The Maurer Construction firm continue with the building of a new honse on a kit sold 'by Kenny MacDonald to Mr. and Mrs. Van Kooten. Also. Kenny's neighbour Lloyd Irwin has sold a lot adjoin-, ing his home at the east end of Ripley. The purchaser of Morgan John- ston't farms, well known for their airplane landing strip used by Morgan for his own plane and also by the Lammen crop spraying planes , comes from the Stroud district. Two, former Rtp'leyites now live near Stroud. They are Aeneas Martyn, retired Toronto City Police Officer and teacher Mrs. Donna Reed, the former Donna Mead. a. 'Kevin Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs Graham Cook of Ripley, reports possession of a gold,pocket watch given to him by his late, grandfather, Malcolm MacLeod of the 8th concession west of Ripley . 'The unique thing about this 'watch was that it was apparen tly.constructed by the late W. Patterson, Kincardine jeweller . * * * Back home from the island of. Barbados in the West Indies, where they recently visited , are four young men of the An-iberley- Reid's Corners - Point Clark and Pine River areas of Huron town- ship. They are -John Walden, Elliott Lowry , Murray Ferguson and Dennis Courtney. They report a wonderful vacation with very friendly people on Barbados. In- cidentally ; Barbados is the native home of Reuben Burnett 'of Pine River who has been a member of. the Ripley •District High School teaching staff for the past ten years • * Farm sale bills are starting to appear posted in the mainstreet window of Elmer Courtney's Ripley Feed Store. This is a sure sign of spring. Anyway , winter is due end on Saturday , March' '16 accord- ing to that Bervie grouhd hog Which saw its shadow on Saturday February 2nd and the six weeks -will then' be past. * S. S. * Both Mr. and Mrs. J.B. (Bert) Breckenridge have been able to return to Kincardine Hospital. For several weeks Mabel.and Bert were in St .Joseph's Hospitafin London. Mrs. Breckenridge spent consider-, able time in the Intensive Care Unit in St. Joe's. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Breckenridge of the Lion's Head distriCt and forrnerly of Detroit are now able to stay in the Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Breckenridge home in Ripley. •While Bert and Mabel Were in St' Joe's they stay- ed in London. Ripley friends wish both Mabel 'and Bert improvement in health. • Mrs. Jack Blue , who was able to be home with her husband in Ripley for a short period , has returned to Kincardine Hospital where she was' reported improving last week. ••* Mrs. Elsie Forrester is presently visiting in Oshawa with her daughter . Virginia, &Lice and Donnie Bell, children of Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Bell, Islington,, Ontar- io spent part of Saturday visiting their great aunt, Mrs. Angus D. Martyn of Ripley. Mrs. Martyn is a patient in Kincardine and Dist- rict Hospital. 5 * 5 Mrs. George Jarrell of Brantford',, accompanied by her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Jarrell, visited with her sister , Mrs. Angus D. Martyn in. Kincardine Hospital. Mrs. Martyn is'there undergoing treatment and care for injuries suffered in a fall at her Ripley home. • * * Last, Wednesday Morning, shortly after six , a Bruce Coach Lines bus rounded the corner and pulled to a stop in front of' Ripley Post , Office. -Here Seven people board- ed. it - Mrs: Gladys (Wrri. Arnold , Reg Moore , Mrs. Fran'• Wylds:, Mrs. Allister (Pearl) Mac- kay, Mrs. Marjorie Reid, Mr.. and Mrs. Dunc • . D. 'MacLeod . At the end of the fifteenth they picked up Mrs.. Marion MacChar- les - her husband Oliver was al- ready'down in Toronto. In Luck.' now, along'with the delegates there', was Mrs. Marjorie (Ewan) MacLean of Lochalsh. Also here they picked up the. Teeswater delegates. The bus was then on its way to the Royal York Hotel PAGE 'THIRTEEN (we almost wrote King Edward) and the convention Of the Ontario Agricultural Societies. 'The bus returned early Thursday evening. This represents a wonderful service considerably different from the time in 1951 when this writer boar- ded the train, as the lone one from this area to the 1951' convention in the Crystal Ballrdom in the King Eddy. All•the delegates report an enjoyable two day stay at the Royal York and in the big City . Also°, Ripley delegates Mrs. Anne (Don) McCosh of Ripley and Mrs. Mad (Howard) Thompson of Purple Grove were down in Toron- to-from the day prior to the Conv- ention.. Well known to the Ripley delegates' were those from Kin- cardine , especially • Mrs. Doris Hollands of Pine.River and. Mrs. Gerry (Carmen)' MacLeod of Kincardine, Mr's. Eldred 'Reid of. Tiverton - sister of Mrs., Amelia. MacLeod Of Ripley and from Tees- water Cliff Ireland and. Mrs. Evan Smyth of Formosa , the former Irene 'Mahood of the Ripley area and ,now secretary treasurer of the Teeswater Fall fair. \ • • • * At the February meeting of the Ripley - Huron '75 ReuniOn cornmittee headed by. Chairman Don MacTavish of Smoky Holl - ow , it was decided that the next meeting would be the first Sunday, evening in March' at eight in the Ripley - Huron Central School auditorium. This is next Sunday evening, March 8, 5 It' is nice' to see Murdock Mac- Donald back as caretaker at the Ripley District High School, after a month's absence due' to illness Assisting Murdock are his wife' Pearl and Leonard Tout. 5 5 * 0 Back on Monday of this week were Ripley. Postmaster Don McLay and his wife Audrey. Dur- ' ing the -past week they were in OttaWa and then visited 'with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bertrand at Cornell University.
