It was a. great game 'for Patti
Henderson of the Toronto Maple
Leafs hockey team as he scored
two goals, and had two assists. As
a result of these four points and
his fine playing,against the
visiting Atlanta Flames, Paul wd
picked as the first Star by Hockey
Night in Canada.
On such an occasion as Saturda
evening when Paul does well and
everything clicks, it is likely tin
there, are people in the
southwestern part 'of Huron tom.,
ship who recall the storniy time
the winter in the early l940's
when Paul was born. His uncle
.Kelvin, who now lives in Rip
getting the sleigh ready and the
`team harnessed and hitched 'to
the sleigh. HiS grandfather , to
Paul's mother bundled up on it,
down the second concession to
Lake Huron in the neighbourhood
of Point Clark, and then along th
shore north towards Kincardine
so' many miles away' at such a
time - his birth , in the Boiler
Beach area of Huron township on,
the, way to the hospital up on the
hill at the north end of Kincard-
ine . What an experience that tri
'must have been. At the
hospital, waiting was Dr. A.E,
Couch and the nurses to care foe
the mother and baby.
The big square hduse on the
Henderson liomestead still stands
and is occupied r- on the second
concession up the road from Pot
Clark and between the home
farms of brothers Leonard and Bo
Courtney. This, was the. first hos,
where PaUl was sheltered and sp
the.early days of his-life. Later
when his father returned from thr
War , the family moved to
Lucknow., I am sure that everyo
inVolved in this story feels just a
little better When Paul has a go
night at his chosen profession of
hockey. I am 'also sure that this
story could be so much better
written than my attemp here.
