N.F.U. NEWS
by Mayme Wilkins
Much has been written and said
about the high cost of food to
consumers. This was again stress-
ed by a man from Consumer's
Affairs at the annual meeting of
Beef Producers at Clinton.
One farmer commented that
his breakfast that morning
had consisted of
2.eggs .120
2 slices of toast 50
1 glass of milk 15e
• Total 820
and , as the man from' Consumers
agreed , this was a very substant-
ial breakfast .
Then this farmer came to the
meeting ancrjust to get his coat
checked cost him 300. Isn't it
about time that we , as consumers
checked our. priorities?
Ask yourself this week, what
percentage of Jour income do you
really spend on food - not your
ioap, paper :products, etc. , but
actual food I According to Canada
tratistiCs ; the average family
(4 people) spends $39.20 'on food
per week. For anyone earning
$150.00•a week this would be
260/0 of his income. In the Count-
ries in the European Common
Market , they spend 52 of their
income on food Think about it I
