THE ,ILUCKNOW SENTINEL, LUCKNOW,
Here is a letter from Nettie Zek-
veld , Who lives in South Africa ,
to Grades 3, 4 and 8.
Dear Mrs. DeVitte and Mrs. Hus-
ton:
,
y.
How are you? We are all fine.
Our summer holidays have started'
so now I have time to write letterS
On November .5th, we took off
from Toronto to New York in a DC
9. The cars and trucks, looked
like dinky toys. When we were;
above the clouds we did not see
much. It was not long before
we 'were below the clouds going in
for a landing in New York -City.
There was water beside New •York
City and I saw boats in the water.
From New York we went to Brazil
in a Boeing-707. It was a big
airplane bin there were not many
passengers aboard it. When we
were going in for a landing in
Rio de Janiero it was night and the
lights of the city were beautiful. .
The plane was refueled in Rio de
Janierb and then we went with the •
same one to Joanasburg. We were
going over the Atlantic Ocean
most of the time. The first- land
we were on was South West Africa:
When.we wee e going over. South
Africa everything was beautiful.
Soon we landed in Joanasburg and
that was the end of the trip.
Schools here are different from the
ones in Canada. They don't have-
desks. We have to take a suitcase
with all our books„in it; The
schools •are made out Of brick too.
There is not as much wood as
there is in Canada . The teachers
give us,Oveets almost everyday.
The girls are not allOwed to wear
slacks. The boys and girls all
have a.suit which they are to wear,
The houses are made Out of
brick or cement. Not many have
an upstairs in them. There
are quite a few houses with flat
roofs. We are renting a house in.
Nigel right now. It has three bed-
rooms in it. My Dad, bought a
farm that is around 900 acres. It
has a long driveway on it. Most
of the farms have long drive-Ways,
We can't move to our firm until
the end of February. There are
many bunta people here. .They
carry their babies and small child-
ren on their backs. There are
kits of palm trees here. :The paper
is full so I should stop writing.
Good=bye I Love from Nettie.
