N..H. Hedleys butcher business,
which had been closed for some
time.
The ChristMas card exchange
was reported as growing each
year. • The sale of two-cent
stamps at the Lucknow Post Office
for Christmas 1953 exceeded the
previous year's record sale by a
wide margin.
The Village council decided
to operate the municipal" garbage
collection service on a year round
basis with weekly collections as
usual on Thursday and Friday.
The public generally requested
service and the Health Dep-
artment desired it.

On Monday evening, January
14, the Ripley Agricultural Soc-
iety held its.annual meeting in
the Ripley District High School•
with President Hugh Mason in
charge.
Highlight of the, well attended
Meeting was the presentation-of a
fine black walnut memory plaque
to Mrs . Gordon- Stanley of Ripley
for 'faithful service to the •
society for over 50, years as a dir-
ector. Mrs. Marjorie (Howard)"
Thompson read the addreSs and
the presentation was made by Mrs:
Martha MacIvor, senior director
of many years ago.- On a motion
Of Mrs. Mervyn.Hooey and Mrs.
Mel Colling, Mrs. Stanley was
appointed to a new position, nam-
ely , honorary convener and, chair=
lady of the lady:directors. Sadie
made a fittingreply and ,_
personally took the plaque' around
the room at 'lunch so that each
one present could see it.

The Ripley-Huron fall fair and
annual home coming reunion
week end will again be held as in
past year on the last Friday and
Saturday in Septernber.
In the president's addreis , Htigh
singled out the tremendous par- '
ade at the 1973 fair, the good
horse show,, the good indoor ex-
hibits in the school auditorium and
in the Huron Township hall and
back of this the great co-opera-
tion-of both the men and women
in getting ready.and staging the,
fair. Mrs. Dorothy Brooks read,
her treasurer's report as well as
the report of the auditors Don
and Audrey McLay. Several dir-
ectors made reports and recom-
mendations. On a Motion by Jim
Needham and Bob Rutledge , Mrs.
Nina Silverstone was 'appointed

C. MacDonald who has served on
the board since 1950. Mrs.
Gladys Arnold will replace Mrs.
Mervyn Hooey and at the same
time, Gladys will continue as sec-
retary of the lady directors and
John Gamble will replace Bob Har
ris who has served, on the board
this past year and who has' done •a
very creditable job. 'John C.
MacDonald and Bob Harris were
appointed associate directors
and will continue to serve at the
fair next September 27 and 28.
On a Motion by Donald A.. Mac-
Donald, Bob Rutledge and' Reg
Moore the society will stage a
dance during June for the Ripley
Huron District Recreation Com-
plex with the objective of a five
hundred dollar donation.' Presid-
ent Hugh Mason, is arranging the
details concerning orchestra ,
date, location and other things.
After adjournment the ladies,
served lunch and the next meet-
ing on,febniary1.1 will see the
final arrangements made for at-
tending the Ontario Convention
at the Royal Yorlalotel in Town-•
to on February 20 and 21. Mrs.
Arnold reported that a Bruce
Coach Lines 'bus will again take
people from Tiverton, Kincardine,
Ripley , Lucknow and Teeswater
to the two day 'convention. '

fered his services as a special ev-
ents and promotion manager for
the fee of $1000. Mr.. Weiler has
;done other work of this type and"
the meeting felt that his assist-
ance and contacts could be of
great help in planning the event.
The deCision to, engage him will
rest with the executive ,committee
when appointed.
A striking committee was nam-
ed to bring forth suggestions• fora
committee and sub committees
to Organize the reunion. Named
to the striking committee were
Jim Peterson, Barry IvICDonagh,
Bob McIntosh , Mrs . Barry Hoc k -
ett and Terry Rathwell.
