John Hunter Is
1700th Member
Signed By Huron.
County federatio
At the regular meeting of the',
Huron,County Federation of Agri-.
culture , fieldman Wm: Crawford
announced that individual mem-
bership in the &Rimy now has
reached the 1700 mark'. This is
an increase of 20,0 new members
in the last 8 weeRsi, The member
ship campaign led by Mr. Craw.-
ford and Vince Austin of-Dungan-
non was centered Mainly •in the
HowiCk and iTurnberry area and
was co-ordinated by Jack Stafford
of Wroxter. The aim of the
campaign is to add 100 new' mem-
bers per month at least until the
spring planting commences.
John Hunter of the 12th of'Ash-
field was the 1700th member sign-
ed in Huron and Vince Austin com-
pleted this last week.
On other business, it was decid-
ed to establish a committee to
study the restructuring of County
government. Since it was felt
that the proVince will impose
restructuring if nothing done
locally, the members and direct-
ors thought it wise, to be well in-_
formed of what can be expected.
:President' Doug Fortune announ-
ced that a telegram has sent
to Queens Park opposing the im-
position of daylight savings time.
In another move, the county
federation decided to lodge.
strong protests against the unaccep
table long delays by the. lawyers
and others responsible for the
granting of Mortgages by the farm
credit corporation in Huron Coun-
ty. Some farmers complained
that It was near impossible to buy
or sell a farm if. FCC was involved
as the ,waiting period runs in
some cases to' a whole year.
Stan Cairn of the CIAG office
in London spoke on "farm
liability" His very informative
talk covered everything, from
snowmobile liability to aerial
'spraying liahility. Many ques-
tions from the members and the
answers'gave even more "enlyht-
enment.
