M.A. BASKETBALL
Near the early part of Decem-
ber basketball"was on the
start for another season at R.D.S'.
The first game was a trip up to
Chesley where both senior and
juniOr girls saw, action. With a
team made up of mostly first year
gins, the R.D.S. Jura-ors fought
their way to a close, 30-26 victory
over the Chesley team. Members
of the Junior team. are. Julie Reev-
es, Donna Gallant , Wendy Hamil-
ton, Laurie Coning, Cheryl 'Mc-
Garvey and Janice Farrell.
In the senior division the R.D.
S. team was,not as successful as
their junior counterparts. With
their playing ability , the girls
could not muster a victory.' They
made a fine showing in the tradi-
tional R.D.S. spirit. Mi. COul-
tes is looking after the girls'
teams, both junior and senior
Which included Margie Collins,
Sally Harrison, Kathy. Farrell:, Liz
.MacKay, Mary. Needham, Kim
Farrell, Joan Courtney and Sally
Elliott. The first home game is'
slated for January 31 when Ripley
meets Sacred Heart from Walker-
ton. The starting times for the
• games are after school and spect-
ators are most 1.4ekome to boost
R.D.S. team's along.
SNOW CARNIVAL
On Friday, December 21 the
annual R.D.S. SrloW Carnival-
was held. The teams took to the
snow competing in such events as
tug of war, toboggan races and
.snow sculpturing. When all the
points were totalled it was found
that John HUston's,team were the
winners. His team consisted of
himself, Joan Courtney, Shirley
Dickison, Wayne NicholSon, Peter
MacDonald, Janice Reeves,
Priscilla Zipfle and Audrey Kastra.
Everybody went inside then and a
volleyball game was held between
the winners of the boys and
girls intramurals and the teachers.
Again this year the students won.
Lunch was then held and then the'
drama ciub put on a half hour per-
formance. The student's council
then showed a movie. Pop, chips;
ice cream were distributed during
the film. By the end of the movie .
it was time to, leave for the buses.
R.D.S. BASKETBALL
January 8th saw an encounter
between the Juniors and Seniors
Of Ripley and Kincardine in 'a
home garne at R.D.S. In the
' Junior game , Ripley pulled .
through with 'a 28-10 Win, asjan-.

and Julie Reeves scored 6 points:
The Seniors lost their game by
a close margin as Kincardine
downed them 32-28, but the Rip-
ley girls did make it a'worthwhile
game. Top scorers included.
Kathy Farrell, 'Joan Courtney and
Mary Needham.
Later in the week, Kincardine
and Ripley played again as Ripley
travelled to our neighbours to the
north; With Minna Gallant ,
Janice' Farrell, Laurie Coiling
doing their best 'v as usual, Ripley
defeated Kindardine by a 12-8
score. Our senior girls did ,not
have the'saine'luek asthe Juniors
but they'll keep on' trying. Better
luck next time , gals!!
We do have a 'senior boys team
this year ,• but they're just not set ,
ting the world on fire as .yer, but
give, them time! It's been a
long time since there .has been a
senior's team R.D.S. , but its
good to see the guys put forth an
effort. Members of the squad in-
clude Greg Udine, Wayne Nichol-
son, Bob Campbell, Wray Thornp-
son , .Mark Smith , Peter MacDon-
ald Peter Huston, Carman Court-
ney,, John Worthington and David,
MacDonald. Keep trying, you'll
never know what the future holds
in store!
KINLOUGH
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bennett

The euchre party sponsored by
the Holyrood Women's Institute
was held on Thursday evening in
the hall. High lady Miss May

Mr. and Mrs. P. A . Murray
and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Johnston
were recent guests with Ivirs.

On Saturday evening Mr. and
Mrs. cordon Jamieson of coder-

On Tuesday, January 8, 1974,
Huron Cotinty Council chose its
new Warden for 1974. He is
William Elston, reeve of Morris
Township. Congratulations!
Ashfield reeve, Girvin Reed, and
deputy-reeve , Warren Zinn, also
West. Wawanosh reeve, Bob Lyons,
were ain attendance at County
Council sessions and this is the
beginning of another. year of
meetings with many duties and
responsiblities for each. .
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Zinn re-
turned January 7 from a two-week
holiday to California , where one • of the attractions was the beauti-
ful Rose Bowl Parade.
Mrs. Bill King has been in God-
erich, at the home of .her mother,
Mrs. Cook, who has undergone
surgery recently.
Mrs. Torn Young-has been a
patient in Goderich Hospital. We
wish her a speedy recovery.
Rev. and Mrs. Clarence Mc-
McClenaghan had as few days'
holiday with relatives in. Kitchen-
er recently.
David Weaver , son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jerry Weaver of Port. Albert
spent Saturday with his chum,
Jamie Bere.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Alton
were guests at the family gather-
ing Saturday evening at Carlow
Hall, when over 40 relatives
gathered to honour Mr. and Mrs.
Carman Pollock of Nile. on their
25th wedding anniversary. •
Following the hockey game
Saturday night in Toronto Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Henderson and girls
Heather Jennifer and Jill, motor-
ed to the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Alton. They.visited mem-
bers of both' families here and in
Lucknow on Sunday. -The girls
experienced their first snowmo-
bile ride and their first cutter
:ide (in a double cutter), making
it a memorable occasion for.them
On Saturday afternoon the trust-
ees for the Cemetery,Board met
at the home of the secretary-
treasurer , Mrs. J. M. Reed , for
their annual meeting. Hugh Mc -
Whinney was chairman for the
business.-
.0ther annual meetings are being
planned. The nominating com-
mittee for Dungannon United
Church is to meet Wednesday at
8.15 p.m. at the mane to pre-

LANGSIDE
YOUNG. PEOPLE'S SOCIETY
The regular meeting, of the '
Langside Young People's was held
Sunday at 1.30 in the charch.
The meeting opened with the..
hymn "The morning has broken".
Mr. Murdock read the scripture
lesson and led in prayer.. Tenta -
tive plans were made in regards
to a'snowmobile -toboggan party
to be held at, Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Bregmans in the near future.
The topic given by ,Mr. Mur-
dock was "When any man comes
to Christ, he is a new Creature".
Another hymn was, sung, and "Mr.
Murdock Closed the meeting with,
prayer. The next meeting in two
weeks will be held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Peter de Boer
following church services.
The first C.O.C. meeting of
the year will be held at the
Langside hall Sunday., January
27th during the church service
at 12.15.. All children in the area
welcome.

HOLIDAY IN JA MA.ICA '
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bregman
flew to Jamaica Sunday for a
week's holiday. Mr. and 'Mrs.
Jan Bregman of _Exeter are staying
with the family 'in their absence.
The first card party'of the sea-
son was held at the Langside Corn
niunity Centre with four tables
of euchre in play. Mrs. Jim .
Young and Marty Young received
high ladies and men's with low
'prizes going to Karen Young and
Fred de Boer. The evening clos-
ed with lunch and plans for
another party with Mrs. Dave
Moffat and Mrs. 'Robert Bregman
in charge.'

A welcome is extended to Mr.

who have purchased the home and
welding shop of Jim Lewis. Gab-.
'riel is a grade MI student at
Goderich and Evelyn is in Grade
VIII at Brookside school. Jim
Lewis has moved to the home of
his daughter, Nadene, Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Bird and family at
Grand Bend. Miss Jackie Lewis,
'a medical student at McMaster
University,. Hamilton, was home
,prior to the moving; The two
Lewis sons, Brian and. John, are
boarding at the home of Miss Pearl
Caldwell while completing exten-
sive alterations at Ken
Hodges' chopping •mill.
'Flu has been prevalent, in
this area. Also there have been
several injuries due to snowmo-
bile and-automobile mishaps.
Miss Patricia Anderson, R.N. ,
*as home for Christmas and the
holiday season with Mt. and Mrs.
Gordon Anderson and family. She
has been nursing in British Colum-
bia for some time.
