'u' has caused the absence Of
many, pupils and teachers. We
hope this will soon be over and
everyone welL again.

The junior grades haVe organ-
ized and started the playing of
floor hockey.

preparing speeches for the run-
off which will come in a' few

Nat Thomson of Lucknow former-
ly of Whitechurch, was admitted
on Saturday to .Wingham
Hospital. • The community wish
him a speedy recovery.

is now employed at the church

NEWS
The first meeting of the New.
year for the Lucknow Girl Guides
was held January :10th. .
The meeting was opened with
roll call and Horseshoe Forma-
tion. The flag was raised by
Susan Thompson, Lorna Boyle
and Kathryn McKirit followed by
0 Canada and the Guide .Prayer:
It was announced that camp
forms were available for Doe
Lake and other carrips. If the
Guides are interested there' are
pen friends available all over the
world.
Volunteers kir a: volleyball
team or badminton team were
taken to start practising for a
tournament in May for the' whole
area .
The girls went into patrol corn-
ers to brush up on their guide
History for a History Bingo Game.
The Robin Patrol was the winner.
5 year service, stars were presen-
ted to Kathy Brooks and Ettabelle
MacDonald; 4 year to Janet Wilk-
ins; 3 year to , Barbara Hackett.
Four Brownies 'were present at
the meeting, Judy. Hunter,

William Elston, R.R.4, Wingham,
Who this year began his 7th year as
Reeve of Morris Township was elected
Warden of Huron County at the
inaugural•meeting of County Council in
Goderich Tuesd4 'afternoon. A Morris
Township, farmer. he succeeds Roy
Pattison, Reeve of East Wawanosh.
The new Warden won over three
other candidates,Hugh Flynn. Reeve of
Hullett Township; Ed. Oddleifson,
Reeve of Bayfield and Charles Thomas,
Reeve of Grey, Township.
In the first vote Reeve Elston received
18 votes, Reeve Flynn 15 votes; Reeve
Oddleifson 8 votes and Reeve Charles
Thomas, 11 votes.
Reeve Oddleifson was dropped for
,the second vote which gave Reeve
Elston 24 votes while the other .two
contestants tied wittr 14 votes each,
To -determine a runner-up; council
voted on the two reeves who were tied
with Reeve Thomas winning 33 - 19.
In the final vote between 'Reeve
Elston and Reeve Thomas, Reeve
Elston received 30 votes giving him a
majority of 8.
Reeve Elston was nominated by,
Morris Reeve is new
Joseph Dietrich, Reeve of Stephen
Township. In a speech to council before
the vote, Mr. Elston said the county
must "make an environment where •
'people will build more homes."
He also said the reeves must work
together to solve their individual and
collective problems:
Mr. Elston was sworn in to office by
Huron County Judge 'F.G.Carter. The
invocation was given by Rev. G.L.Royal
of Knox Presbyterian Chtirch,
Gciderich.
Welcoming addresses were given by
Goderich Mayor. Harry Worsen; Jack
Riddell, MPP for' Huron', and. Murray
Gaunt, MPP for 'Huron-Bruce.

former Isobel -Bowman and the couple
has a family of five, Wayne 26, Murray
