Finley McInnes , a native of
this community, was recently
honoured in Inuvik, North West
Territories, when the Royal Can
adian. Legion Branch in that north-
ern community officially changed
its name to the "Mclnnes Branch
2207.
'Finley, or Mac as he is known
to many of his friends, was born
in this community. He is the son'
of the late Neil McInnes
of the 2nd of Kinloss and Annie
.Beaton of the 4th of Huron.
A long time resident of Inuyik,
Mr. McInnes has always held a
keen interest in the north. In
changing the name Legion mein-
bets in that town decided, to name
the branch after a local man, a
Canadian, a man well respected
by all who knew him. For 50
years or more Mr. McInnes gave
his best for the early development
of the north. The McInnes
branch is the most northerly
branch of the Legion.
In the dedication of the new
building, the Legion had this to
say about Finley.
"We honour McInnes , not be-
cause he is famous, a hero., nor
indeed even well known, but be-
cause this. the, Most Northerly
Branch of the Royal C,anadian
Legion will be named after a Can-
adian, a local man, a man living
in this town; a Northern man;.a
life member of this Branch; .a
man who so well typifies the cour-
age , the determination, the • spirit
of the many pioneers of this great
Northland." '
Finley and. Marie McInnes are
well known to many Lucknow res-
idents. A -few years ago, they
resided for a short time 'in the Mc-
Innes home on Havelock:Street in
Lucknow.

Mr. McInnes was born in
Lucknow , Ontario, September 19,

In 1916 he saw service with the

fortunately found out they were
both of the same outfit.
