The. Liberal member from Wirton sent a letter to his con- stituents this past week which is as - follows: Dear Constituents: I have purposely put off sending 'this letter for some rime , because• of my reluctance to ex- press in writing that I will not be a candidate in the next Feder- al Election. Quite frankly ; it was , my desire. to let my constituents be the-first to' know of my deci- sion. Some months ago I let GIVE THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE BE A RED CROSS BLOOD DONOR key personnel of my Executive know by views. However, many speculative stories have been written, and the time has now come to let everyone know that under now circumstances will I run again. It has been a great life and for • the opportunity that has been mine , 1 am most grateful. I was first elected to Council in,,Wiar- ton in 1952 and had the honour to be Mayor of that great little Town in,1953,,1954 and 1955. I was elected to the Ontario Legis- lature in 1955 and served contin- ually until Oeto.6er 1967. Front June 1908 until now , I have had the great privilege of representing all of you in Ottawa. As a result of this life., along with almost six years in the Army , I have met literally thousands of people. •Ninety-nine percent of them, have been nice and even when Criticism has been ' given, in the vast majority, of instances , 'it has' been given con= structively and politely. Prob- ably one percent of the popula- tion is a little hard to put up with for anyone in politics. My purpose in reminiscing is simply to emphasize that as long as we have good people on this earth , we are not all going to the dogs. The many problems, that we have at the present time will look very small in five hundred years, or for that matter five thousand years from now. On the other hand , the challenges of,the present one , are in my opinion, greater than any. that civilization has faced up to the moment. Why then, am I moving aside , of my own free-will at this exciting time in history? • In my opinion, most people can reach a stage in their lives. when CONTINUED ON PAGE 6 Jack Curran of Ashfield Town- ship .has returned home from Alex- andra and Marine Hospital, God- erich , where he was a patient for eleven days. / Miss Ada Webster of Lucknow is spending Christmas week in Missi- ssauga with her niece Mrs, Don McLeod and family and with her nephew Bob Webster and family of Streetsville.
