MacDonald and Lloyd IrWin's
house, in the east end of Ripley.
Speaking, of weather, we are
having a. real clear, cold spell of it
over the weekend. Saturday
night through Sunday morning the
temperature, dropped to zero or
below depending, odthe location,
Fortunately it was just clear, calm
and frosty, making,it ideal for •
winter sports - snowmobiling, cur-
ling etc. in the area To date
no one has been out with a horse
and cutter or sleigh. There was
something rather nice about the
tinkling sound of sleigh bells on a
clear calm frosty night. But
like the whistle of a steam train
engine coming from Lucknow to
Ripley pulling can filled with
friends coming home for Christ-
mas, those sounds can now only
be recalled in naerhory by those
who once experienced them.
Village foreman Ambrose Gam-
ble-, with assistance from Joe Hod
gins,, strung the coloured lights
across the village main, intersec-
don this past week. These lights
along with those at the Oraen
Rock shop and George McLean's
brighten up the area around the
main corner in Ripley. Other
stores and shops along the main-
street are decorated for. Christmas.
On Saturday afternoon it was
the usual skating for the young
girls and boys of the area in the
Ripley Diamond Jubilee Arena and
starting early morning there was
a bonspiel in. the Ripley Curling
arena just to the north of the skat-
ing rink.
Lloyd Wylds is undergoing hos-
pital treatment in London. It is
reported , that he has. been a pat-
ient.there for the past couple of
weeks in St. Joseph's Hospital.
Ripley and area folks send their
best wishes for Lloyd's recovery
and return home to the village.,
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Pollock are
now living in their newly
constructed home just south of the
home of postmaster and Mrs. Don-
-aid K. McLay. Brian's house is
on property in the south east part
of the village owned by his fath-
er Murray Pollock.
*
Speaking of housing, the area
on the farm of Mrs. Marion Mac -
Tavish, located on the west side
of the fifteenth and just north of
the curling rink, was surveyed intc
building lots a 'few weeks ago. It
is all marked out with their stakes
