The Anglican Church Women
held their Christmas meeting on
Thursday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Howard Thompson. Mrs.
Gertrude Walsh presided,and the
• opening Carol was "Away in a
Manger" followed by prayers.
Mrs. David Haldenby read the
Christmas story from St. Luke's
gospel, chapter 2.
Correspondence was read by
Mrs. Midford Wall. Donations
of money, were gratefully re-
ceived from .Mrs. Norine Sieloff,
Detroit , Mrs. Madeline Haldenby.
Sarnia and the family of the late
Jim and Jean Smith. A letter of
thanks from St. Monica House,
Waterloo was read expressing
appreciation for the bales which,
were sent following the Novem-
ber meeting. A further donation
was made to assist with the work
there and also to the Sunday
School. All ladies answered the
roll call with their favourite
Christmas Carol.
Mrs. Howard Thompson, pray-
er partners secretary, read a
7,hristmas letter from Rev. and
Mrs. George Honour; also a letter
was read from Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Hill, residents of Brucelea
Haven, Walkerton.
Mrs. Bert Nicholson on behalf
of the ladies presented a gift to
Mrs. Roy Schneller, who will
soon be making her home in
Wingham.
Miss May Boyle gave the Christ
mas meditation telling of family,
activities in the early days when
Christmas was celebrated as a
holy, 'season

then conducted the program. Mrs.

to give the offertory prayer at that
meeting. Mrs. Lorraine McPher-
son invited the ladies to her home
for the January meeting and Mts.
Lyman Sutton will be luncheon
hostess, •
Mrs, Jack Barr thanked all of
the officers and members' for sup-
port during the past year. Mrs.
George Harkness thanked the host-
ess for having the Christmas meet-
ing. "Appeal to Caesar" film was
the Bible Story. • Mrs. Tom
Donald gave the .missionary report
from Miss Muriel Copeland.

end of Silent Night and all joined
in singing this Carol. '
Mrs. Art Haldenby read "Christ-
mas Blessings". Mrs. Delbert lied-
ley read ."Try reforming". Mrs.
Howard Thompson gave a reading
or "Song and. Christmas Music". •
Mrs. Midford Wall had a con-
test "Christmas Carols and Christ-
mas Quotations". Cards were
signed for shut-ins and'the Church
Calendars were distributed. Mrs.
Jack Scott conducted a Christmas
Carol eontest. Mrs. Walsh read
an article from the Living Mes-
sage "Couldn't" and concluded
with aChristmas poem.
The 'litany, and benediction
clOsed the meeting. Lunch was
served and Mrs. Roy Schneller
gave the courtesy remarks. Mrs.

WHITECHURCH NEWS ,
Whitethurch W.M.S. of Chal-
mers Church met on Thursday,
December n at the home of Mrs.
Bill Evans. ,
The-president Mrs. Bill Rintoul
presided, gave a call to worship,
and extended a warm welcome to
all present. All repeated the Aim
and Purpose in unison.
Mrs. John de Boer .read the
scripture and gave the meditation
centred on the Birth 'of Christ.
Mrs. Wesley Tiffin led in prayer.
Mrs. Andrew Gaunt brought along
her record player and played one
of Rex Humbard's records, which'
played a Christmas carol and
then he gave a message. There
were three of these. He said
many think only of Christmas
gifts and forget the real meaning
of Christmas. Some get rich,
some become pnor, , but no matter,
do you know the Prince of Peace.
We are to remember that Christ
is God's,gift to us. All can know
the meaning of Christmas by
believing in Christ. Read Luke,
chapter 2 and believe Jesus loves
you and have a rebirth in scrip-

ask Mrs. Lloyd Murdock for this

Mrs. Johnston COrin sent thanks
for cards received while in hos-
pital. It was decided to put
gifts in a box to be sent to Mrs.
Newbold to give to those who
have no relatives. The roll call
was answered by eleven with a
scripture verse with word Light.
Mrs. W. R. Purdon gave a
reading, The story of the Light,
of the World. This was the
itry of the picture, where Jesus
is' standing at the door knocking
for admittance. In the picture
the door represents our Hearts.
There is no latch on the door it
must be opened from inside.
There are 2 crowns, one is eter-
nal and the thorns represents the
enemies. Christ brings new life
when He is admitted through the
door..
The topic. Merry Christmas,
was given by Mrs, Dawson Craig.
Christmas has so many signs -
holly, Christmas flowers, singing
Of carols, which resurrect our
feeling of Christmas. We should
take time to take stock of our
Christmas signs. Christmas is
the festival of the arrival of our
Saviour. The hymn Joy to the
World is 250 years old and not
Modernized. Without' Christ,
Christmas is a pagan time.
Let's come up with something
more than saying Merry •Christ=
mas: • •

On Russian Trip
Unit 3 of St. AndreW's United
Church, Ripley held their Decem-
ber meeting in the Church Hall
with a good attendance. Pail
MacDonald acted as chairman
for the worship service presented
by the C. G.I.T. girls. It was .
most timely and well presented.
Mrs. Wm. Arnold' and Mrs. Rod
MacDonald were in charge of the
business. Members were asked
to write to their M.P.P.'s regard-
ing the half-truths as presented on
TV advertising on alcohol, The
C.G.I.T. girls agreed to do some
decorating in the church for Christ-
mas.
Mrs. Doug MacDonald, conven-
er of program, then introduced
Mr. Floyd Stanley who showed
slides of his 10 days, in Russia this
summer.' Folks were Impressed
by the many lovely buildings.
Conditions are not comparable
to Canadi but much better than
years ago. Mrs. Morris Reid
thanked the C.G.1.T. girls for
their prograrn and lunch, and Mrs:
MacDonald ,thanked Mr. Stanley
for the slide presentation and
being so willing to answer ques t-'
tions. Several mothers of the
girls and visitors also were wekom-
ed.
Ulrich was served by Mrs,. - El-
lion Carruthers and Mrs.
Walter Forster, along with the
girls.
