Achievement Night for the 4-11
Clnb Members in Ripley district
was, held- on Monday evening of
this week in the high school. At
the conClusion of the program
lunch' was served. Further details
, on the trophy and special
prize winners will be given in
next week's paper.

This past week was the first
week for Leonard Courtney. as
/livestock, drover at Ripley. Leon-
. and has the same shipping days,
namely Monday and Wednesday
as George McDonald who has just
retired from this position.
Gordon Finlayson of Loclialsh
received , mention in last Satur-
day's week end summary of top
sales at, the Ontario Livestock
yards in Toronto. The shipment
for Gordon, which brought this
top price, .was a lot of nine Here-
ford steers from the farm of Don-
ald Alton on the.tenth concession
of Ashfield.
1958: The total value of stock
shipped in the period up to
November 15th this year was
$19,496,437.;9Q. The animals
shipped were as follows: 74,330
cattle l 3595 calves, and 3615
sheep and lambs. The shipping
association presented George,
Murray and Mrs. George . .
McDonald (Erma) on last .Thurs-
day evening. Elmer Smeltzer and
Leonard Irwin, president and sec-
retary of the association, present-
ed George with a suitable wall
plaque, Murray with a leather •
billfold and then George and Erma,
with' a nice teflon electric grill
for their home. 'On November
13 the staff at the stockyards in
Toronto presented George with
a rosewood carved cane on the
Occasion of his last shipment.

Rev. and Mrs. Cecil Carnochan
and family spent• the week end
with his parents at Guelph. This
was a special family occasion as
his parents were celebrating
their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

PRESENTATION ON RETIREMENT
Last Thursday evening a special
night was held • by the Shipping
Association to honour retired drov•
er George McDonald. • It was held
in.tI4 Ripley-Huron Legion hall.
The ladies of, the Ripley-Huron
Legion Auxiliary catered for the
dinner with• ladies. Mrs. Donald. K.
(Audrey) McLay , Mrs. Russell
(Pat) Stanley and Mrs. Ab (Fran)
Wylds at the hall and other mem-
bers making donations to the meal
which was in smorgasbord style.
Jim Wicks of the Ontario Live-
stock market in Toronto was the
main speaker. He gave the facts •
and figures on the business since .
George, assisted by his brother
Murray, started on November 1st ,
It .is reported that Mrs. Howard
Robb of Amberley, the former
Mrs. Norine IvlacCharles, has sold
her home in Ripley to Mr. and
Mrs. Reg Godfrey of Pine River,
west of the cheese factory on the
sixth concession of Huron
Township.
Lloyd Irwin of-Ripley is back
home from hospital. Lloyd's
many friends wish him improved
health. Lloyd and his wife Katie
live at the east end of the village
in the home built by Jack Powers
prior to he and Mrs. Powers mov-
ing to -Kincardine.

With the temperatures during
the past week higher than in the
previous couple of weeks, all
traces of the first snow had vanish-
ed and many farmers were taking
advantage of the nice days to
complete further fall plowing.
WORK COMMENCES
ON MEDICAL CENTRE ,
Dating the past week the first
k:.s done on the site of the
Ripley Huron and area medical
centre. The old cement garage
of Dr. Johri'D. Munn of Toronto:
was taken down. It was once the
building of the village gas produc-
tion prior to Hydro. Chain saw-
ing removed Manitoba maples
and poplars, also on the grounds.
Make Plans For
1975 Big Event.
On November 17 , seventeen
descendants of the Andrew-Lane
pioneer families gathered at the
home of Alex Andrew of Lucknow.
Enthusiasm and interest was
generated as plans were made for
the double celebration of the
125th anniversary of the Andrew-
Lane, family arriving in Canada
and approximately the 50th •
anniversary of the 1st Reunion.
This event is to take place (lut-
ing the summer of 1975: The
1974 farnily.picnic will be held
as usual at Ashfield Park, August
11th.
