A 1967 bylaw , prohibiting the feeding of livestock in the village, will be forwarded to a number of village residents who have facilit- ies for this purpose. Reeve Joynt , at last week's council meeting, received the support of council when he propos- ed that a copy of the bylaw be sent to all concerned indicating that council expected them to abide by the regulation. Complaints have come to the Reeve from village residents and he said that , in this day and age , if people wanted to farm , it was time they used farm land in the •country and not residential prop- erty within the village. * Council received a notice of a rate increase by Ontario Hydro in 1974. They will request the xep- resentative from Ontario Hydro to sit in With them and discuss the matter further. An extension:has been received from the Waste Management Branch of the Ontario Government to July 1974 for a permit to use the village dump. Councillor Gordon. Maize said the dump is presently being covered monthly. * • A ,notice from Ontario Hydro stated that , in view of the energy crisis, they will curtail decora- tive Christmas lighting and they suggested that council set an , example by doing likewise. Town foreman Cliff Crawford was in- . structed tp reduce the number or Christmas lights normally placed along the main street. * Council discussed a letter from George Newbold of Pinecrest Manor requesting that they consid- er finishing the pump house , south PAGE -TWENTY-THREE. * Three other matters 'discussed by council, were water run-off problems in the area around Ralph Cameron's house on Outram Street recent damage'to a Silyer- woods motor from low voltage, excessive water pressure at the MaWhinney property on Bob Street near the new well. * At a special meeting of coun- cil, held in October , a raise in salary was extended to village foreman Cliff Crawford. The , rate set was $3.50 per hour to be in effect from November 1, 1973 until December' 31, 1974. * Social Evening Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ritchie of Lucknow were pleasantly surprised last Saturday evening when memberi of their family. relatives and friends gathered for a social evening in their new home.. Those present were their two daughters Dianne and Tom Dick- son, of Port Albert and Hilda and Tom Andrew of Lucknow; their son Calvin and his wife Jill of 'Waterloo and Jill's parents Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tucker from List- owel; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mac- Donald, Mrs. Glen Porter .,• Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Ritchie and Janet all of Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs. Angus MacDonald of St. Helens; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Nelson of Ashfield; Mr. and. Mrs. Glen Weaver of Port Albert. of the new nursing home, in the same exterior decor as the nursing home building. Verbal discussion by council and Mr. Newbold, before the Construction plans commenced , indicated that council would do something in the this regard when the time arrived. Council decided they would pur- chase the brick and, have the pump house sided using their own brick- layer. In return, they asked Mr. Newbold for a long term lease on a small piece of property which is owned by Mr. Newbold, but which due to an. error in'the past , restilted in the c. pump house being built slightly onto the Newbold property. Mr. Newbold also asked that Elgin Street east , a short piece from Bob Street to the Public School boundary, ,be opened. This piece of work is presently being completed and a road .off this will serve as an access to the rear of the nursing home property'. Council indicated that this will be built'now and paved in the spring. They had earlier indicated to• Mr. Newbold this work would' be done. i• yAn
