The Albert Wylds Scholarship., which is given to the top two students in Level V , was presented by Jim Needham to . Bev Smith and Richard Rooney ' whose names were announced ,by George Armstrong. - Floyd° Stanley then introduced Mr. D. McKillican who is the dean of ,th&GeOrgian College of' Applied Arts and Technology in Barrie. R. D. FL. S. has had quite a number of students furthering their career at the Barrie and , Owerind campuses. His pres- entation gave a' message to the' parents , teachers and the students and Mr. McKillican was well re- ceived by the large audience in attendance. He was presented • with a small remembrance of R.D.S. in which Floyd Stanley .expressed his gratitude on behalf of the students and teachers. The Carter Scholarships are giVen to the top three Level V students in • Bruce County and With Bev Smith's average of ninety five per , cent., Ripley was indeed lucky to receive One of the awards. This was presented by the principal of R. D. S. Wm. Turvill. Gail Messenger , president of the Students'. Council inrxoduced the Valedictorian, Bev Smith. During her five .year stay at R.D. S. , Bev was active in all school activities including spcirts, .year ; cheerleading, newspaper editor, and Glee Club and yet Bev's average remained well over the ninety per cent mark. In her speech Bev remembered her first school days at S. S. # 3 , Huron, Ripley Huron Central School, 'Ripley District High School (now Ripley District School) and presently at 'Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo where she is enrolled in an Hon-. ours degree, in English. Mrs, Jack dean. then presented' Beverly Striith•with the Ripley Women's, Institote Prize. To last years leve1.4 students, secondary school graduation diplomas were receiv- ed. These students were, Bonnie Boyle,' Blain Carruthers, Boyd Carruthers, Carman Cciurtney, Jim Dore, Joyce Elliott, Karen Elliott,. Gary Farrell, Jamie Farrell, Kathy Farrell, Sally Har- rison, John Hust!pn, Dianne Mc - Kay , Sandy Pollock Brian Reed,. Mark Smith, Mike Smith and Debbie Tranter: Floyd Stanley then`. presented Sally Elliott with the Best Girl .Athletic Award. Under the lead- ership of Miss Campbell the grade • 7 and 8 Girls Glee Club sang two very enjoyable songs. Beverly Smith again was' honoured , by , , accepting the Principal's Award for outstanding scholastic achieve- ment from Wm. Turvill. Char- led Beamer asked Anne Marie Stanley to come forward and re- ceive the Dr. Couch Bursary for going into the field of medicine. The Lieut. John A. MacLeod Memorial Prize was presented to Joan Ferguson by Doug Coultes.. Gayle Huston, Carmon Court- ney , Kathy Farrell, Sally Huh- . son, Debbie Tranter were the des- erving individuals who received school letters for activity. Garry Farrell, Sandy Pollock, Mike Smith, Greg Liddle , Eliza- beth MacKay, David MacDonald, Mary Needham and Wayne Nichol- son were presented with athletic letters. 'Scholastic letters were given to Kathy Farrell, Joan COurtney, Grant Farrell and Con- , nie Pollock for having an average ' 'of-75*m molt for thre7e—y-ta-m. • Senior:School Letters were present• ed to Richard Rooney, Carman Courtney, Kathy Faxrell,•Sally Harrison and Joan Courtney. '• They were announced by 'Doug Coultes and presented by Edward Brown. The Track and Field Champ- • ions were then presented by Mr. Brown. Courtney Liddle was Midget Boys Champion, Richard Bell was the•Junfor Boys winner , and Jim Dore was given the Ken Pillen Trophy, for being the sen- ior- champ. Girls Champions were Priscilla Zipfel, Midget winner;' Junior Champion was•Debbie Beard and Sally Elliott was the Senior. Girls Champion. These, awards were announced by. Reuben Burnett, The Girls ,Glee Club sang two numbers "True Grit" and "Far Away Places" directed by Sally Elliott, Sally and Debbie Tranter. Ripley had three Ontario Scholars who had averages of 800/0 in ,level V , announced by Charles Beamer and presented by Sam , Malhotra. Joan Ferguson'was the recipient of the . Donald and Irene MacKenzie Scholarship. The Student. Council Proficien- cy Awards were announced by ' vice president Brian MacKay and presented by president of R.D.S. Gail Messenger. The awards are given to the highest in the classes. Receiving awards for Level I was Ken MacKay, Ann Zekveld, Clark Aitken, Ardis Nicholson. Patti MacDonald 'was'the highest in Level II follOwed by. Nancy • McGuire, Barbara Grubb and Wray Thompson. Level III was topped by Gail Messenger, Joan Courtney, Connie Pollack and Grant Farrell.. Carman Courtney had the highestmarksin Level IV followed by Sally Elliott ,' Sally Harrison and Kathy Farrell. Those completing Level V re- ceived their Secondary School Honour Graduation Diplomas. Mrs. Katherine Collins announced the graduates while Leonard Court- ney presented the diplomas to , Susan Brooks (Business at Georgian College , Owen Sound); Marg Chester , Dehbie Corrin (Early Childhood at Fanshawe), Joan Ferguson (Huron-Perth School of Nursing), Gayle- Huston , Barry MacDonald (Ryerson Institute., Toronto), Margie MacKay (Wil- fred Laurier University), Shirley McCreath'(Retidential Counsellor , Fanshawe),, Donna Needham (Law Clerk, Fanshawe), Janet Ritchie , (Medical, Secretary, Panshawe). Richard Rooney (Medicine', Univ- ersity of Toronto), Bev Smith (Honours in English, Wilfred Laur- ier in Waterloo) and Anne Stan- ley (Nursing in London). Bev. Smith was the recipient of the English and French awards 'presented by Mrs. Kath- erine Collins'. Mrs. Barbara Burgeis presented the History Award to Carman Courtney while Susan Brooks and Donna Needharn received the Geography award presented by Reuban Burnett. Carthon Courtney also, won the. Math Award given by Doug Coul- Died At Hurcinview MRS. CHARLES MORRISON The death of Mrs. Challes Mor- rison occurred at Huronview, Clinton on Friday , October 12th in her 76th year. • Mrs. Morrison, the former Eliza- beth Pearl Irvin, was a daughter of Robert Irvin and Ann. Eliza Hackett. She was born in Ashfield Township on February 27, 1898. On October 23, 1937 'she mar- ried Charles Morrison. The couple were married in London. Mr. Morrison passed away \in 1962. Mrs. MorrisOn is survfved by one daughter Mrs. George (Kay) McGee of Clinton and .one son Bill of the Canadian Forces sta- tioned at Lahr , Germany, who came home to attend his mother's funeral; also survived by a broth- er William H. Irvin of Ashfield . Township and a sister Mrs. Milton (Mary)Naylor of Keswick. The funeral service was held at MacKenzie Memorial Chapel, Lucknow on Tuesday , OctOber 16. Rev. J. E. Hummel of Lucknow was minister. Mrs. Morrison was a member of Wesley Willis United Church , Clinton. Pallbearers were Robert Irvin, Russel Irvin , Irvine Naylor , Percy ,Blundell, Jim Steele , Hugh Men- ary. Interment was 'in South Kinloss Cemetery.
