Presentation To
Ashfield Churth

The Explorer Group of the
church 'assisted 'with the service
on Sunday under the leaders Mrs.
Beryl MacDonald , Mrs. Elaine,
Collins and Mrs. Nancy Swan. •
They took their place in the choir
loft and after repeating their Pur-
pose and /their Motto sang the
hymn 'can A Little Child Like
Me". A leather bound hymn
book was hen dedicated to the
church for the pulpit , which was •
presented on behalf of the, Explor-
ers by Mrs; Beryl MacDonald. and
.accepted on behalf of the church
congregation by Rev. J. Weir.
Reverend J. Weir of the Kincar-
dine Presbyterian Church is Inter-
im Moderator for the Ripley-
Ashfield Presbyterian Churches
and declared 'the pulpiti vacant.
on. Sunday, October 14th. Any-
.one needing the services of the

Many attended the wedding
reception on Saturday eyening'in
Lucknow for Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Hogan. At 11.30 the young' •
couple were called to the front
where an address was read by
Lawrence Hogan and a purse was
presented on behalf of those at-
tending by Peter Van Osch. Jim
replied on behalf of'he and his
wife Bonnie. The ladies served a
lovely lunch. Music was supplied
by Carruthers Orchestra.
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Simpson
accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Del-
bert Wilson and Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Frayne' to Stra.tford on
Friday evening to attend the din-
ner and dance in the Victorian
Inn sponsored by the Huron-Perth
Separate School Board for the
staff. •

bOys are running two miles. The
cross country running is consider-
ed a tough race which a lot of
boys' are taking part in. The girls'
race is easier because it is shorter
and they don't have to jump the
creek and other things.

SOCCER ,
The team of 2, John Peil's
leam'and team 1, Jeff MacTav-
ish's team, are going into the boys'
soccer play offs. Team-1'has won
three ,,tied two and lost two gam-
es. Team 2 has won four, tied
two and lost one game.
On October 12th, playoffs will
be held between Team 2 which is
in first place and Team 1 which is
in second place.'

We are getting, very excited
because we will be Moving out
of the' gymnasium tomorrow and
into our brand new portable class -
roorn . We are looking forward to
Hallowe'en at the end of Octaber.
In school, we are talking about
all the ways to make this Hallow-
e'en a safe one.

in Lucknow on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ritchie
visited on. Sunday with her mother,
Mrs. Mary MacAuley of Centen-
nial Manor Home at Milton. •
Bill Wilkins and his• cousin Bob
Wilkins took Barbara Wilkins back
to University in Guelph, Sunday
evening.
Wanda Hunter , school teacher
at St. Catharines, spent the week
end at home With her parents , Mr.
and Mrs. Jim Hunter.
Miss Jan Simpson of Western
University and. Gary Kaye of
Strafford spent the week end with
her parents Mr., and Mrs. Robt.
Siinpson.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill :Van Qsch
of the Kintail Store, and sons
Bernie and Jim accompanied the
Kingsbridge Grade 8 students and
teachers by plane to British Colum-,
bia leaving Monday. Many im
portant places of interest have
been planned for their visit and it
should be 'a very interesting trip.
The store is closed this week
while they are away.
Mrs. Pearl Cole visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Joe MaeIntyre and
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vassella and
attended the Hogan reception on
Saturday evening.
MEET THE TEACHERS NIGHT
A meet the teachers night was
held at North 'Ashfield school on
Monday evening from 7 until
9.30. The Principal Mrs.
Margaret MacCharles and Mrs.
Marian Mowbray assisted by the
Special Education teacher Mrs.
Mary 'Bere and the music teacher
Mrs. Lillian Simpson greeted the
parents and discussed schocil activ•
ities. 'Coffee and cookies were
served in the Staff Room by two
grade six girls Lynn, Taylor and
Janet MacDonald. The teachers
were pleased with the splendid
turnout of interested parents..
mrs. Jack Mackenzie visited
on Saturday at Kincardine Hospit-
al with her father Mr. Bert Wald-
en, who has been ill. His many
friends wish for him improved
health. .
Mrs. Margaret Elliott of
Kincardine was a guest last week
with her daughter Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Simpson and family.

ter Mrs. Veldhuis and children of
Holland are visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Bongertman and family.
Mrs. Klaverwal is a sister of Mrs.
Bongertman. Frank and Roy Bong-
ertman of Aylmer also were horne
for the week end.
Mr.. and Mrs. Graham Moffat
are home having enjoyed a
month's trip to the west. Mari-
lyn stayed with her sister Mrs. •

Exeter visited Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Bregman and, family last week.
The Langside W.M.S. was held
Thursday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Peter de Boer..

The regular meeting of the
Langside Children of the Church
was held Sunday during church
services at .he hall. The meet-
ing opener' with the call to wor-
ship '0 c :ne, let us sing unto the
Lord'. Can a little child like
me' wab sung. The scripture,
Psalm 100 was sung
by everyone. Nancy de Boer
then led everyone in a sing song.
Mrs. young• conducted a discus-
sion with the children asking them
to name things for which they
might be thankful. Deut. 26:
1-11 was,read. The story "The
Children's Offering" was read by
Nancy de Boer after which our
I Thariltsgiving offering was receiv-
ed.
Everyone divided into groups
to make •stuffed turkeys. The
meeting closed with another sing
song and the Lord's prayer.
