HaVing come under criticism by
several beach associations and
other beach residents about the
lack of services provided to the
beach area , road superintendent
Dave Moore compiled a list of
road expe,nditures spent .on the
beach area over a recent six year
period'.
Prior to the period mentioned ,
the township constructed the Bell
bridge on the_Lake Shore Road ,
just north of Lurgan. This was
built at a cost of $180 ,000 and is.
between the 4th and 6th conces-
sions.
In 1966 the township rebuilt the
lower 12th concession, Highway.
21 to the Lakeshore , later paving
it at a cost of $27 „693. In 1967
they regraded 'and paved the 10th
hill at a cost of about $27 ,000:
They also placed two large cul-
verts on Concession A, the Lake-
shore from the 4th to'the 10th.
One cost over $7000 and the
other $5470.
In 1968. they, reconstructed Hur-
'On Road from the second conces-.
sion to the Ashfield 'Boundary at
a cost of $31,154. In 1969 the
township replaced bridges on con-'
cession A between the 2nd and
4th at 'a cost of $42,287 and
spent $17 ,829 on other construe-
don. In 1970 they reconstructed
concession A from the 4th to the
10th at a cost of $90,000 and 'Pav-
ed this road in 197$ at a cost of
$35',000.
Mr. Moore said that the total
figures spent on' the lakeshore
area road. work over six years was
$397,259.
He said that the 'township now
has a paved access from highway
21 to the beach every 2 1/2.mtles-.
He said he didn't know where , in
any township , you, might find as
many paved roads in planning the
future of the bech area.,

The road superintendent stated
that $7000, in a normal winter ,
would be spent to plow the roads
for the permanent residents along
the beach area. As well, two
,application, of ..,,,tcium are
applied to control dust as compar.,
ed with one`application in the
other parts of the township. As
well, many areas 9f the township
are without paved roads , funds
for which have been given prior-
ity in the beach areas. '
It was pointed out that all these
improvements to the beach area
were made when the assessment
there was low , about 1/5 of the
total, not since the new market
value assessment changed the
ratio.
As well , any money spent on
roads and snow removal in areas
where roads do not comply with
provincial regulations as to width,
etc . must be. paid for 100% by
the township with 'no provincial
subsidy.
Council pointed out at the
meeting that year round garbage
collection , twice a week in the
summer months and once a week
the 'rest of the yeary was being
provided to beach residents for the
sum of $8 per year , a service
not available in the remainder of
the township.
