More particularly our grievan- ces are as follows; 1. The association owns 38 acres of green belt property that, according to the .bylaws of the association and soon to be regist- ered on each deed, cannot be used for any other purpose without 'the unanimous consent of all the property owners. With the pres- ent emphasis on conservation this consent will probably never be given yet the taxes on this prop- erty increased over 500% in 1973. 2. One building lot (not fronting on the lake) in the registered plan is a right of way, to this property and cannot be used for any other purpose 'according to the deed and yet it is assessed and• taxed at the same rate as the building lots next door that contain cottages ($3900 each). 3. Every cottage owner's.taxes have increased at least. 100% and some far more with no increase in the very limited services that are provided to cottage owners, We understand that all properties are assessed at market value rer'• gardlesS of the fact that almost , w,ithotit exceptions all our cot- tages are strictly for Summer use and none of us send children to schools. 4. We received our tax notices the week of August 20th yet, if they are not paid by September. 15th they are subject to a 4/0 periL alty, This, despite, the fact that each person must pay at least twice as much as last year and yet, to our knowledge, payment was never tequired this early be- fore. • You may reply that points 1 and 2 should have been looked after at assessment time.' We agree'that we should have been more 'careful in our examination of the assessment notice '130 the tenor of the notice was 'that, although assessment would be indreased;raXeiwoul&not nec• essarily be.-. You can rest assured we will examine the assessment iotices very carefully next year. We also understand that full implementation of the new act is being done in stages. Because ofthis we suspect that the govern- ment realizes that this could be very_ controversial legislation •and wish to test the reaction of a few property owners. Finally, as property owners, ,we do not ask for anything, but fair. treatment but in this legislation and subsequent taxation we feel that we have been unfairly dealt with. • 'Yours very truly , Ross C. Fuller , Vice-Pres- ident , South Bruce Beach Property Owners Assoc. School Pupils Will Call For Blind The early experiences of the young blind child provide, the basis for his future growth and develop- ment as, an adult,. Helping the blind child achieve his potential is just one of the many CNIB services supported by your annual donation. The local fund raising canvass will be conducted October 5th to 13th by students of Lucknow Central Public School. Each student will have canvasser's credentials. The Canadian National Institute for the Blind first began its work with blind children in 1950 and since then has helped thousands of children prepare for life in a sighted world. CNIB's Workers " help the parents discover new ways of teaching and stimulating the child to learn. For example; a blind child learns about the potato he eats by touch. He helps to wash and. peel it for cooking and his whole concept of it comes .from touch and •taste. Every- thing in his environment has to be experienced in a' similar way. At the same time he must learn self-control-and hoW to handle the world beyond his reach. Otherwise he Will suffer frustra- tions such as not being able to find a toy thrown aside in anger. Throughout the child's early years the children's worker coun- sels the parents in their difficult role and helps them determine the individual child's needs and provide enriching experiences. When the child reaches school age the worker becomes the contact with the.-school and continues as liaison with •other CNIB services. CNIB's work with blind child- ren and their, parents starts the. blind child on his way to become independent , self-supporting adult. Your gift to the campaig helps blind children grow.
