The annual municipal enumeration will be conducted during
the two weeks beginning September 3, 1973. The enumerators
are required to„viiit all risidences and check basic information
contained on existing enumeration notices. The information is
required for municipal and provincial purposes, including voters'
lists, school support, the- direction Of education taxes between
the public and separate school systems, the population count,
and the distribution of provincial funds to local governments to
help reduce local tax bills. •

Mr. and Mil. Ed Meteler of
Toronto, who are spending their'
vacation in the beach, visited on
„Friday last week with their
friends Mr. 'and Mrs. Niels Fred-
lksen and Mrs. Charles Wyld in
Ripley.

The meeting took place on Feb-
ruary 19, 1897 and with the help
of Adelaide Hoodless, the first
Women's Institute was formed -
now world wide. It was a very
proud day'for the Federated Wom-
en's Institutes of Ontario when,
they purchased' the Erland Lee
home on June 15, 1972. Five ,
generations of the Lee family had
lived in the home - about one and
a half miles east of Stoney Creek.
Here James Lee came in 1792 as
a staunch U. E. Loyalist fleeing
from Pennsylvania. Here they
raised Jersey cattle, produced
dairy butter, maple syrup, Green-
ing apples by the carloads and
grapes for sale'. •
Mr. Down asked this writer ,to

Women's Institute to ,be. placed
with'.their. records. So it has been
turned over to Mrs. Donalda (Jack'

Area Recreation Complex -. Jad<
Farrell was appointed to this
board to represent the fair board.
And alsohlan McLean of conces-
sion 8, west of Ripley, attended
on behalf of the Ripleyand Area
Lions Club.

MEET. WITH CONSULTANTS
RE RECREATION COMPLEX .
Last Thursday evening, a' joint, '
meeting of the building commit7
tee and the finance committee of
the Ripley-Huron District Recrea-
tion Complex was held in 'the Hur-
on Townshiphall in Ripley. The
meeting was chaired by the pres-
ident Bob Emerson and attending
were treasurer John Loomis, sec-
retary Doug Coultes, Huron coun-
cillor Bert Elliott, village clerk
Bill McCreath, along with Allan.
Irwin, Kenny MacDonald, 'Dave,
Henderson, John D. MacKay,
Jim Needham, Mrs. Ted Rouse,
Carmen Courtney and Ab Wylds.
Jack. Peirson and Torn
Aldster,•both of Peterborough,
were present and as consultants .

coming up in the near future are
the making of soil tests of the
site and drawing, of.working plans.:
They had 2200 copies of a
brochure On the new -half million
dollar building at the meeting.
These will be used in the door to
door canvass. Also the commit-
tees plan to give out information
at- the Ripley-Huron fall fair,
September 29,' and on the 'Friday
evening of the fair to hold•a soft-
ball. game in the park.

home for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reeves
and family is proceeding. Doing
-the job are the Ernmerton broth-
ers - sons of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Emmerton of the sixth concession
west at the beach. This new home
is located just sough of Mr. and -
Mrs. Jack McLean's home on the
main street south in Ripley.

'have purchased the John Inglis'
'house - the former geg Moore
'home and 'at one time a part of ,
,the King Edward ..hotel. Never
:heard of it - well it was before my
time too. ,

A "family shower" for Miss
,Susan McLay, daughter of post-
master and Mrs.' Donald McLay of
Ripley, was held last Saturday at
the home of her cousin, Mrs.
George MacLeod, Kincardine.
Mrs., MacLeod is the former Hetty
Bowers of Ripley. Susan, who has
been employed in office work in
Toronto, will be married this Sat-
urday in St. Andrews United
Church in Ripley.
