This Week In- Ripley
at the grandstand for the official
opening ceremonies.

The funeral service for Harry
Lindsay of Walkerton, was held
on Monday afternoon of this week
*at McLennan-MeCreath Home with
interment in Ripley cemetery,
Harry, who was 55 years of age,
was a native of Huron Township
and Ripley, His parents were the •
late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lindsay
and the family home was the
house where Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Strauss and family now live I
on the tenth concession west in
Huron Township. Harry attended
school on the tenth and high
school 'in Ripley before joining
the R.C.A.F. in the Second World
War. Sympathy of Ripley and
Huron area people goes to his
wife Miriam, daughter Judith,
and brother Walter. For a number
of years now , he had his home in
Walkerton being emploYeil by the
Bruce County Highways Depart-
ment. .For a number of,years Har-
ry played hockey for Ripley.

Last Thursday afternoon, Fri-
day and Saturday morning, a'
crew of workmen were up on'the
flat roof of George McLean's
store. They were busy installing
a new roof. Among them were
George himself, neighbour Oraen
Rock, Johnny Smith, Bobby Rob-
ertson and Wayne McLean. The
store is the former Commercial
Hotel dating back• to the time of
Ed Hodgins, about one hundred
years ago.

Donnie Fludder of Ripley attend'
ed an 0.H.A: referee school
held.in Toronto this past week
end. He was accompanied by
Allah Gardner of Clinton and
formerly of Lucknow.
A good job of pasture clipping
of thistles, golden rods and other
weeds can be seen at the farms
of Wm, J. Arnold - two blocks
north of Ripley on •the fifteenth.

Jean and Noreen MacDonald of
Ripley , along with their cousin
Mary MacDonald .of Ripley and
the Toronto teaching staff, spent
Saturday and Sunday in Toronto.
They attended the last of the four.
day Scottish Festival featuring
the massed Pipe Bands including•
Toronto's famous 48th and also
the Gurkha band from Nepal,
India.
Folks having relatives or an-
cestors buried in the-Virden Cem-
etery at Ernie Colling's farm, lot
16, concession 3, about 80 rods
west of the fifteenth on the fourth
conces,sioni are asked to send
their names and, dates to either
Boh Courtney or Don MacTavish
both on rural mail route number
one from Ripley post office.
Huron Township council work-
men are widening, and improving
the road at present, arid
intended later placing a cemetery
marker at the site of Virden Cem-
etery and former church. The
church was replaced by Olivet
Church, now being dismantled;
but the cemetery, remained.

' Friends were glad to, greet
Harry Scott along Ripley's main
street this past week. Harry had
been hospitalized for several
months following a hip fracture..
He reasides at the home of Mrs.
.Amelia MacLeod in Ripley.

The president of the Canadian
National Exhibition, which open-
ed last Wednesday in Toronto, is
Douglas Palmer of Schomberg.
Doug is known to a number of
people, through this area'. About
25 years ago, he used to call
at Bert Breckenridge's store in
Ripley as an agent for a feed
company. Then also he is known
for his Belgian horses, - driver
of tandem hitches in the horse
arena both at the C.N.E. and
Royal Winter Fairs. Last Thurs-
day 'evening, Doug/introduced
Lord Lovat of Fraser to the crowd
Anne and Joan Ferguson and
Betty Colwell are on a vacation
trip in Western Canada.

With the month of September,al•
most here, it is fall fair time of
the year. Lester Ferguson brought
in calendars' giving the dates of
the fairs in. Bruce a-nd Grey Count=
ies. These are now on display
in different places. It is not hard
to remember the times of those in
this local area. Kincardine is at
the first of the month, Lucknow
the middle and Ripley the last Sat.
Urday, then in October. are Tees-
water, and Tiverton.. Dungannon
Fair is listed for September 26,
27 - just ahead of the Ripley-
Huron fall show.'
Renovating the chapel at the
Ripley Cemetery has been Bob
Love He painted• the exterior.
Then, With the assistance of Billy
Tranter, installed.a new ceiling
inside the chapel.

Last Saturday afternoon was
the wedding of Miss Corinne Mac
Donald, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John C. MacDonald of
Ripley. The wedding dinner was
'held at the new Sutton Park Inn
,at Kincardine.
