The Bruce County Health Unit
opened an office in the Johnstone
Block. The Lucknow, and District
Public Health Nurse, who was'
stationed in ,the village was Miss
Joan Cormack.
Albert Gammie purchased the
Campbell Street property of the
late Mrs. R. 'J. Cameron.
A hydro-crew 'commenced work
of stringing new, wires along
Campbell Street , leading up to
the removA of hydro poles and
hydro' lines from the main street.
40 YEARS AGO
AUGUST 1933
Mrs. Nancy L. Campbell re- ,
tired from the business life in
,Lucknow after thirty-five years in
the restaurant business . The .new
proprietors, Misses May Davidson
and Mary -Watson took possession
the middle of August.

James Thorton, a Ripley resid,
ent, died following an accident
near Holyrood.. He fell to the
road from atop a truckload of ,
wood on which he was riding,
and died about an hour later from
injuries received.

AUGUST 1913
For twenty-six years the 'Vil-
lage of LucknOw had the free use
Of the MethodisvChurch bell for
the, purpose of a ,file alarm.: The
bell had become cracked and use-
less as an instrument of sound and
at the August meeting 1913 the
council granted $112.50 toward
the purchaseof a new bell for the
Lucknow Methodist Church. The
new bell continued to be used
by both town, and church as the
old one previously was.
A great "Money-Saving Sale"
was being advertised at the J. G.
Murdoch and Co. store - men's
suits, regular price $12.50 and
$15.00 for $8.49; boy's cotton
tweed knickers for 290 a pair and
men's shirts for 290 each.

a gift from the Institute 'and Mrs.
'Isabella Hamilton who was"ninety-
nine this Month thanked everyone
who had made the party such a
success. During the social period
the ladies served ,birthday cake •• •
and lemonade. •
The Clinton Legion Pipe Band
paid their annual visit to the
Home on Family Night. The •
Weather was perfect for the 'occa-
sion and all the Residents as'well
as several visitors were able to
take advantage of the music eith-
er at the west windows or out on
the lawn. Everyone enjoyed the
band selections and were enter-
tained in groups with' Scottish
songs and violin numbers by indiv
idual members.

day for the concert on the lawn by
”The Band". During the after-
noon a special number was played
for those having Birthdays during
the week.

tnte were lxists for the August Bir-;
thday Party on Wednesday after • -
noon. One hundred and fifty •
.residents and guests attended the
party with Mrs. Murray Coward
as mistress of ceremonies. The
program included tap dancing by
Michele Robinson, vocal trio
numbers by the Pym family, Mrs.
Tom Hern played some favourite
piano melodies with Carol Alija
leading a sing song and a group of
twelve young.people organized a ° •
rythm band called I "The Last
