Association is again sponsoring
the corn sweepstakes for silage
yield. Rather than take hand har-
ves.ted samples as we did prev-
iously we are now able to weigh

this way the yields We record will
be very close to .the actual yield
you are getting.

stakes is $5.00 and minimum
field size is 10 -sacres. Cheques
should be made payable to the
Bruce County Soil and Crop Im-
provement Association and sent
to — Ontario Ministry of Agri-
culture and Food, Box 1330,

Closing date for the sweep-
stakes is September 1st.

NEW DAIRY SUPPORTS
ANNOUNCED
Rising costs of production, the
poor planting season and the de-
cline of milk production continue
to plague the Dairy Industry.
Dairy Farmers of Canada at a
recent meeting in Edmonton,
asked the Federal government to
take immediate steps to raise
the income to Industrial milk
producers by at least $1.00 per
100 pounds of 3.5% milk.
On July 31st, the Federal Min-
ister of Agriculture announced
changes to the National Dairy
Policy which are a partial ans-
wer to the request from the Dairy-
Farmers of Canada.
A temporary subsidy increase
of 56 cents per 100 pounds of
manufacturing milk has been
granted on all production within
Market Share Quota.
The hold back of 30 cents per
100 lbs. on all milk within M.S.Q.
has been reduced to 10 tents.
Those two changes amount to
an increase of 76 cents per 100
lbs. The reduction in hold back is
retroactive to April. 1, 1973 and
the temporary 56 cent subsidy is
effective August 1, 1973.

The third change announced Li
an increase of 3 cents per pool
to the support price of skim ma
powder. This change would me4
approximately 24 cents per 11
lbs. of milk. However, it musan
pointed out that this increase ill
only apply to that portion of Oik
ario Industrial production that
goes into skim powder. All a!
Ontario Industrial milk is pail
for at a blend price, This mead
the 24 cents. may, realistically end
up as 18 cents in the blend talk
It -is also expected, since procek
sor costs are increasing as viell
as farmer's costs, part of the
cents may go to the manufactp
er, thus reducing the 21 cents
even more.
At. . this point the increase to
Ont ar io Industrial produces
looks like at least 85 cents per
100 pounds of milk,
