A call, put in to the Ripley Fire Department,, was relayed to Lucknow because the area is in Kinloss, served by Lucknow. The wooden boat was retrieved by the use of the, canoe and Art Breckles, along with fireman .Gary Austin, pulled the two men from the water. All during this • time, the men had been hang-, ing on the rubber raft which, with their ' life jackets, kept them afloat. The men were none the worse for their experience except being a bit shaken and very wet. The cottage on Hayes Lake, • famous• for its muddy areas, is . accessible by driving completely around the lake on a narrow road and it was fortunate that a phone was'installed at the cottage or 'the length of time in .securing help would have been increased considerably. The mud in the lake, .despite rumours which • have been circulating, played no part in the incident. Fanshawe Grad Everett Whitehead Dies In 46th Year DONALD E.
