Womens Institutes
Held Workshop
• Bruce South District Women's
Institute held a successful Work-
shop in Lucknow on June 21st.
District ' Curator. Mrs. Stewart
Farrell welcomed the ladies and
introduced the guest speaker,
• Mrs. R.C. Walker of St. George,
Ontario, the Provincial curator.'
She would like to see more
house logs in our. homes. These
logs would remain in the house
at all times. Each owner would
write in any changes made by
him. When this house was sold
the log would stay with the house.
This is a European ,custom that
dates back some 400 years.
Mrs. Walker stated that though
Tweedsmuir Histories was a
Women's`Institute project, it was
also the history of our commun- •
ity and hoped more people in our-
communities
ur-communities would 'become
interested and give us their
histories of farms, schools and
churches. Thus help to preserve
the many items of history that .. .
otherwise would be forgotten.
Often students in Universities etc.
find informationneeded in their ..
studies in Tweedsmuir books.
' Mrs. Walker also gave a splen-
did outline on how to '
write up a family, tree.
The branch curators and visitors
that attended this work shop •
gained much knowledge from
Mrs.. Walker's instructions on
how to write up a ' House log,
family trees and Tweedsmuir
Histories.
