AA THE LUCKNOW SENTINEL, .LUCKNOW, ONTARIO NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS DESTROY WEEDS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to all persons in possession of lands in the. Villages of Bayfield and -Brussels, in the County of Huron; also property ,owners in the Townships of Ashfield, Colborne, Goderich, Grey, Hay, Howick, Hullett, McKillop,Morris, Stanley,Tuckersmith, Usborne, East . Wawanosh and West Was, wanosh, in ' the 'County. of Huron; also property owners in the Towns of Clinton, Exeter, Goderioh and Wingham, in the County of Huron. In accordance with the Revised Weed Control Act, 1972, Section 4, 14 and 20 and, amendments thereto, that unless noxious weeds growing on 'their lands are . destroyed by July 20th and throughout the season, the Municipality may enter upon the said lands and have the weeds destroyed, charging the costs . against the land in taxes, as set out in the Act. The co-operation of all citizens is solicited. ALEX CRESNEY, Weed Inspector, of Huron SNAP Project Active In Area ,. Eight area young people work- ing on Project S.N.A.R. (stud- ents working in nursing-home• ac- tivity c-tivity program) begin the project in the Lucknow region July 3. S. N. A. P. is part of Ontario's Experience "13 summer work pro- gram and is operated by the Youth Secretariate underthe supervi- sion of Margaret Birch., The pur- pose of the program is to provide social and recreational outlets for elderly citizens ih selected nurs- ing homes. Brian Miller of Wingham a fourth year sociology student at the University of Western Ontario, is co-ordinating the program in•this area from his home in Wingham and with the help of personnel at Goderich psychiatric Hospital. The area high school stud- ents who are assisting him are Joan Allen of Woodham, Joanne De Groot of Seaforth, Olga Zemitis ` of Clinton, Adrienne.Van Raay of Dashwood and Mary Gregg, Jan Green, Nina Knight and Jody ' Cox. all of Goderich. The team • -is canvassing local merchants for ,possible activity articles and appreciate all such donations that could be used/in the program. Carruthers Nursing Home at •Holyrood, Pinecrest Manor and the O'Donnell Rest Home in Luck- f• are the selected homes in tIiL 4itea.. Tops Club The weekly meeting of the Tops Club was held in .the base - ment of the Presbyterian Church in Lucknow. Eunice Cunningham made: the arrangements for the meeting. Rosalene Barger led in exercises and games with two teams competing. The meeting was opened with the Tops Pledge and a sing song. Ivy Courtney was queen of the week and won the .fruit basket. Dorothy Rotteau moved that, we geta dietician for • a speaker in September. •Rosalene Barger was. appointed to arrange this. It was decided to invite the Ripley Club during the summer and invite Diane McNeil, area supervisor, to come•and speak. Mayme Wilkins is making these arrange- ments. Mayme Wilkins read a letter from Ruth Lauzon, the new super- visor, uper-visor, and the points it •raised were discussed. We are to send our by-laws in;. have our books audited every three months and also our master chart. Barbara Emberlin moved that Eunice Cun- ningham and Margaret Keith be the auditors. Margaret Keith received her 1/2 way to goal charm. Terry MacKenzie had the pro- gramme arid had a contest. Only 15 lbs. were lost this Week com- pared to 35 lbs. last week. At this occasion' of Queen Eliza beth's ten day visit to Canada, it is timely to mention that Mrs. Gordon Bridge of the South Line of Kincardine came upon a pair of Canadian stamps issued at the time of the 1939 Royal Tour: of Canada. It was early in the sum- mer and a special train starting:, • from Kincardine 'went to. Stratford in the morning and returned that same night. All the schools went down on it as well as a number of citizens. It was a bright sunny day - blazing. hot and we march- ed to the park for lunch, then back to line up along.the railway tracks. .The Royal train hauled by engine 6400 overshot the sta - tion platform and stopped about • 30 rods down the track. W. •J. Bell now of Toronto and Amberley Beach, at that time a student at Ripley Continuation School, randown the tracks and was the only one to get ,a good look at the Royal family. Mrs,. Bridge's stamps are not common- ly seen to day. Speaking of rare items, George MacDonald of Ripley has announ- ced August 11 as the date . of his second sale of antiques. He held a successful one last year. In this sale there will be many Col- lector's items. Mostly the same staff will be in charge. Sale bills are being arranged for printing. ' • • The sudden passing. of Mrs. "Clifford Emmerton, age 21, in Victoria Hospital in London on Saturday was 'a shock to the people of this area. Deepest .sympathy is extended to, Clifford, her parents Mr. and -Mrs. Gordon .. .Elliott of'Amberley Beach; her brothers Rickey, recent graduate .of Waterloo Lutheran University and Terry at Ripley District High • School. Just a few short years ago Jill and Cliff were also attending the Ripley District High School. Funeral service was at the Ross MacLennan Funeral Horne in Kincardine with inter- ment in Ripley Cemetery on Tues day of this week. • • •' • • John Gamble of concession ' six east in Huron Township has supplied further details on the recently formed "House League" for junior girls wanting to play softball. The four.teams will be called by the colour of their caps. The following ladies will be in charge - for the Black caps, Mrs. Betty (Ivan))Cook and Mrs..• Donalda (Jack) MacLean, both of Ripley; for the Green caps - Mrs. Barbara (John) Gamble and Mrs. Joan (Jim) Brooks, both of the sixth of Huron; for the Blue Caps Mrs. Nancy Dawson and Mrs. Evelyne MacTavish; both of . Olivet and for the Red Caps Mrs. Margaret (Wes) Smith of the fifteenth south and Mrs. Joan (cord) McIntyre of Ripley. • Spare coach will be Mrs. Roy Thorney- croft of Bethel. Eight girls from the Ripley District High School will actas umpires and be in charge of the'' grounds at the Ripley Huron Cent ral Public School.
