At this occasion' of Queen Eliza
beth's ten day visit to Canada, it
is timely to mention that Mrs.
Gordon Bridge of the South Line
of Kincardine came upon a pair
of Canadian stamps issued at the
time of the 1939 Royal Tour: of
Canada. It was early in the sum-
mer and a special train starting:, •
from Kincardine 'went to. Stratford
in the morning and returned that
same night. All the schools went
down on it as well as a number of
citizens. It was a bright sunny
day - blazing. hot and we march-
ed to the park for lunch, then
back to line up along.the railway
tracks. .The Royal train hauled
by engine 6400 overshot the sta -
tion platform and stopped about •
30 rods down the track. W. •J.
Bell now of Toronto and
Amberley Beach, at that time a
student at Ripley Continuation
School, randown the tracks and
was the only one to get ,a good
look at the Royal family. Mrs,.
Bridge's stamps are not common-
ly seen to day.
Speaking of rare items, George
MacDonald of Ripley has announ-
ced August 11 as the date . of his
second sale of antiques. He held
a successful one last year. In
this sale there will be many Col-
lector's items. Mostly the same
staff will be in charge. Sale
bills are being arranged for
printing. ' • •
