WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, •1973 Singh 'Copy 15c 24 Pais Honour Paul Henderson Saturday And Open New Community Swimming Pool Two big events highlighted the Lucknow scene on Saturday. It was Paul Henderson day in Luck - now when people from Paul's : home town turned out to honour him for his successes in profession- al hockey and the particular honour he brought to this comm- unity with his performance - on Team Canada during the world hockey championship. It was also the day to officially open the, new swimming pool for Lucknow and District , a dream of -many years come true. The new pool, which represents about "$35;000 for the pool itself and a further $10,000 to 12,000 for the change rooms and necessary facil- ities.uhas }been built by public donations from .interested folk in the area, and former residents at a distance. It's not all paid for yet, but it's well on the way and further 'donat- ions are hoped for now that .the pool is operational, to put the project over the top: It will be maintained by area municipalities after the capital costs are paid. The afternoon was perfect , weatherwise, for the outdoor. events. A 'parade beaded by the. Kitchener Waterloo Dutchmen Drum and Bugle band made its way through the main street short- ly after 2 p.m. In the parade,,in an open convertible were Parl, • his wife Eleanor andthree girls, • Heather, Jennifer and Jill. Following, in a second car were local municipal officials, Reeves George Joynt of. Lucknow , Girvin. Reed of Ashfield, Bob Lyons•of West ,Wawanosh and Councillor Barry Johnston of Kinloss filling in for Reeve Leo Murray who was unable to be present that after- noon. : Also riding in the parade were Barry McDonagh of the Lucknow Lions Club, chairman of the Lions -Legion committee in charge of the Pau14Henderson Day; Gerry Priestap, president of ,the Lions and Gordon Montgom- ery, president of the Legion. Area Recreation Committees were represented by Bill Hunter of .!CONTINUED ON' PAGE 7 Bruce .WiIi Not Pay ForStudents Going To Brookside, Huron Accept Cost For All Those PresentlyEnroOed Until Elementary Education Is Completed HURON COUNTY SCHOOLNEWS By Marian' Zinn The Huron County Board of Education has.been advised that the Bruce County Board of Educa- tion will not. pay tuition for pup- ils attending Brookside Public School on the grounds that Brook- side is not located in the former North -Ashfield Union School Sec- tion. it was resolved at the last Board meeting that Huron County , Board of Education, advise parents of Bruce County (residing -on Lots 1-60, Con. 1, Huron Twp.) pup- ils enrolled or to be enrolled in Brookside Public School that, if the Bruce County Board ofEduca- tion refuses' to pay tuition fees, such pupils MAY COMPLETE their elementary education in. Russell Stanley, Reeve of Huron Township and clerk - treasurer Earl Tout met with Lucknow Village Council at the June meeting to presenta new fire agreement between Huron Township and the village. Huron Township recently be- came involved in a new fire area with Ripley which • involved the purchase of new. fire equipment and buildings. Prior to :that,- they had been AAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Rubber Boat Punctured Two Men Rescued From Hayes lake In Kinloss Two fishermen, out for an afternoon on Hayes Lake in Kinloss Township, had a bad experience on Thursday afternoon of last week that saw them cling to an overturned and punctured rubber boat for at leasthalf an hour before being rescued. Charlie Tilden of St. Thomas and Bill Tilden of Harriston, both in their 60's, 'accompanied by their wives, were at the •summer cottage of Ian .McNab located on Hayes Lake, just west of Kinlough on the 12th of Kinloss. Mr. McNab, who , owns'the cottage, is a son-in- law of the Charles Tilden and the foursonne were preparing the cottage' for the arrival of the McNdb family, for a sum- .mer vacation here. The two men went fishing in a rubber dinghy on the small lake and were trolling for pike • when a good one hit their line. •.In attempting to land the fish,' and being watched from the shore by the ladies, all of a sudden the small boat lost its air and dumped the two men. into the lake. Some speculation as to why • the boat went'down is that either the hook on the fishing line cut the boat or the teeth from the fish sliced it. The men, both wearing life jackets, found themselves in the water and the fish and poles went to the bottom. The only time Lucknow will answer a call to Huron is when a .specific request comes from a member of.the Rip - •ley -Huron Fire Department indic- ating that•Lucknow is needed be- cause of a bad fire or other emer- gency situations. Jill Emmerton Died Suddenly At 21 The community was shocked to learn of the death of 21 -year- old Mrrs. Clifford' Emmerton on Saturday at Victoria Hospital in London. • Mrs.. Emmerton was the former Jill Diane Elliott, daughter of Gordon and June Elliott of Amber - ley. Beach.. Since her marriage to Clifford Emmerton, she has resided on the 2nd of Huron, west . .of Highway 21. Jill was hospitalized at Kincar- dine early Thursday morning of last week, was then removed to Owen Sound Hospital where a caesarian birth delivered a daugh- . ter on Thursday, just before noon.
