Honour Paul Henderson Saturday And
Open New Community Swimming Pool
Two big events highlighted the
Lucknow scene on Saturday. It
was Paul Henderson day in Luck -
now when people from Paul's :
home town turned out to honour
him for his successes in profession-
al hockey and the particular
honour he brought to this comm-
unity with his performance -
on Team Canada during the world
hockey championship.
It was also the day to officially
open the, new swimming pool for
Lucknow and District , a dream
of -many years come true. The
new pool, which represents about
"$35;000 for the pool itself and a
further $10,000 to 12,000 for the
change rooms and necessary facil-
ities.uhas }been built by public
donations from .interested folk in
the area, and former residents at a
distance.
It's not all paid for yet, but it's
well on the way and further 'donat-
ions are hoped for now that .the
pool is operational, to put the
project over the top: It will be
maintained by area municipalities
after the capital costs are paid.
The afternoon was perfect ,
weatherwise, for the outdoor.
events. A 'parade beaded by the.
Kitchener Waterloo Dutchmen
Drum and Bugle band made its
way through the main street short-
ly after 2 p.m. In the parade,,in
an open convertible were Parl, •

Rubber Boat Punctured
Two Men Rescued From
Hayes lake In Kinloss
Two fishermen, out for an
afternoon on Hayes Lake in
Kinloss Township, had a
bad experience on Thursday
afternoon of last week that saw
them cling to an overturned and
punctured rubber boat for at
leasthalf an hour before being
rescued.
Charlie Tilden of St. Thomas
and Bill Tilden of Harriston,
both in their 60's, 'accompanied
by their wives, were at the
•summer cottage of Ian .McNab
located on Hayes Lake, just
west of Kinlough on the 12th of
Kinloss. Mr. McNab, who ,
owns'the cottage, is a son-in-
law of the Charles Tilden and
the foursonne were preparing
the cottage' for the arrival of
the McNdb family, for a sum-
.mer vacation here.
The two men went fishing in
a rubber dinghy on the small
lake and were trolling for pike •
when a good one hit their line.
•.In attempting to land the fish,'
and being watched from the
shore by the ladies, all of a
sudden the small boat lost its air
and dumped the two men. into
the lake.
Some speculation as to why
•
the boat went'down is that either
the hook on the fishing line cut
the boat or the teeth from the
fish sliced it.
The men, both wearing life
jackets, found themselves in the
water and the fish and poles went
to the bottom.
The ladies, attracted to the
?roblem, attempted to shove
