Village foreman Ambrose Gam- ble, with a new rotatory mower, tractor drawn, has been cutting •the weeds and orchard grass on, the back streets. ▪ * * • A patient in Kincardine and District Hospital for the past two weeks is Mrs. Donald Cameron - one of Ripley's hair dressers. Her 'many friends in the area send best wishes to Gladys and hope that she soon will be able to return home. • * • * Collections for the new Ripley Huron .Medical Centre started this past week and Reg Moore, who has been .on the canvassing job sends along this information that it will 'continue for at least the next two weeks. Any dona- tions may be made and left at the following places - the Royal Bank and Lawri James Superior Store in Ripley ,.Bob McNay's. Store at Amberley or Gordon Cameron's st9re at Pine River. The Ripley -Huron area still means "home" to many and no doubt they will be willing to help in •whatever way they,can. * • .* • John Gamble also states that • 54 girls, ages 10 to 13, gathered last Friday afternoon to start a "House League" in girl's *softball. It is proposed .that four teams will be formed and games will be held on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at the playgrounds ,behind' the Ripley -Huron Central Public School at the west end of the • village. Perhaps also some ,exhi- bition games with teams from. Other centres will be held. This will get' "off the ground" once the busy' haying season is over. Eight- een years ago the Ripley Flyers took the first W.O.A. A. _champ- ionship in ladies softball in that • historic game over in Wirigham on October 23, 1945 against Hanover. In .1945 they played 35 official games winning 30 in the season and were in the ,ball park back of the Ripley District High. School at that time four nights each week. So it, is very satisfying to this writer to see a return of interest. • On Monday of this week garage operator Frank ipfel of Ripley entered St. Joseph's•Hospital in London where he will undergo further examination and treat - 1'1 -lent of his right knee. Early last winter Frank underwent knee surgery and was a patient in St. Joe's for five weeks. His mech- anic, Wayne Nixon will cart), on the garage business aided by Mrs. Reta Zipfel and daughter Priscilla Mrs. Charles Wyld is on an ex- tended trip visiting in the Georgain Bay area. Last Wednes- day. Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Pollock of Ripley visited in Port Elgin. Mrs. Wyld went with/them to visit, friends in Port Elgin. After visiting there Evelena expeCted to continue to Meaford. • * Miss Donna Needham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russ Needham of Ripley, was named Miss En, thusiast for Bruce County at a 'Junior Farmer rally at Port Elgin. • Miss Wendy Peacock was the runner up. Congratulations go to Donna who received a dozen red roses and•keeps the crown for the next year.. * The wedding of Miss SusariFar- rell, recent graduate of the Univ- ersity of Waterloo, daughter ,of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Farrell, con- cession 12 in Huron and Courtney MacDonald, also a grad- uate of the same university in 1972 was held last Saturday after- noon in St. Panl's Anglican Church in Ripley, The reception dance in Ripley on Saturday ev- ening was well attended. Arnold left, Rip- ley last Saturday, June 16, to ' attend, the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada Convention at Banff. sAlberta. Gladys attends as a delegate from the Bruce South District of Women's Institutes. The Convention is being held from June 17 to June 22 at the School of Fine Arts there. * * * Incidentally, before leaving, Mrs. Arnold brought around a copy of a booklet entitled "The Bruce County Indians". This booklet, illustrated with coloured pictures, Was written by her grandson Jamie McEwan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim McEwan at Kinloss Corners (Black Horse), a student in grade 11 at the Wingham Second- ary 'School and it was 'one of his projects. On' Monday evening of last week a meeting of. the Ripley Agricultural Society was held in the cafeteria room at the Ripley District 12."..gh School.
