JUNE 1963.
Montgomery's Garage was
broken into and a hammer taken"

Machine.. A 1960 Ford was taken..
The car was picked up at Chap-
leau the next night with four i}n
the car. Another instance the
following morning, regarded
as a local job, was the disappear-
ance of a high school bus from the
bus lot. The bus was soon
discovered in the municipal
dumping ground "at the northern
outskirts of the village.
Rev. W. R. Fristram of Merlin

Fund Raising Event
Approximately 200 persons are
expected to sit down Thursday
evening of this week to a 440 per
plate fundraising dinner at the ,
Sunset Golf and Sports Centre near
Goderich in benefit of a proposed
Ripley Recreation Complex. Am-
ong those will be special guests
Paul Henderson and Gary Doak as
well as area members of parlia-
ment.

The recreation centre project,.
which will •include an indoor
swimming pool : rink and
auditorium, is expected to cost
an estimated $450,900. How
much of that total, will have to
be raised' locally, above/and be-
yond available. grants from the
Federal and Provincial grants, has
not yet been determined but or-
ganizers are starting their fund
raising activities all the same.
Henderson. and Doak will speak
at the dinner but during the day
Paul Henderson will also be busy
with a goodwill tour of the area
in support of the recreation centre
project.
A chartered plane will leave
the Ripley area Thursday morn-
ing
and meet Henderson at Toron-
to where he is arriving from Cal-
gary and commitments he has
been fullfilling there. ,He will
be flown to Ripley where he is
to meet school children and the
people of the Ripley area before
going to the dinner at Sunset `Golf
and Sports.

area.
• The dinner gets underway at
6.00 p.m.

Fifty-seven blood donors attend-
ed.the first :local clinic. •A nine -
bed "hospital" was set up in the
United Church. A second clinic
was to be held in Lucknow, in
five weeks.
Free dental treatment, which,
had, been received in Lucknow
Public School for the previous
two years, was winning favour
throughout the district.
Free dental care had also rec-
ently been approved for all pupils
in Ashfield Township and mem-
bers of Huron Township Council
had voted in favour 'of. free dental
and medical inspection and
treatment for all public school
pupils in the Township. •
Thepupils of Union School
section No. 14, West and East
Wawanosh were also.receiving
free dental treatment.

The Button name has been
associated with thebutcher busi-
ness in Lucknow for well over
60 years. The late Robert
Button, father of Russ, first
started the business with his broth'
er-in-law Samual Webster back
in X1907. He moved to the present
location in 1910. Russ became
associated with the business fol-
lowing the second World war
and purchased the store, in 1954.
Russ will continue his farming
operation on Highway 86, west
of tucknow. '

Visits 'In England_
With Her Son
Mrs. Gerald. Rathwell, Lucknow
librarian, returned last week from
a 2 1/2 week holiday. She trav-
elled by air to England where she
visited with her son Tom who re-
sides in' Leeds, an industrial city
in the northern part of that
country.
Tom is completing a year's •
studies at Leeds University where
he iscontinuing his Geography
and Urban Planning studies com-
menced at York University at
Toronto. His plans for next year
are not definite. He' plans to
return to. Canada in a few weeks:
After spending a week with her
son. Violet sailed on the return
trip to Canada aboard the Queen
Elizabeth.
