Mrs. Greer thanked Mrs. Web-
ster for her help with the testing
badges. As well as .testing some
Guide badges, Mrs. Webster has
been attending some Brownie
meetings to test many of the
Brownie badges.
A Flying -Up ceremony was held
when, three Brownies received
their Brownie Wings for the
completion of the Brownie prog-
ramme. Lynn Shepherd, daughter
of •Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Shepherd
of Lucknow Marian Raynard,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
Raynard of West Wawanosh and
Brenda Phillips, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Phillips of Kinloss
were introduced into the Guide
Company and will begin Guides
in the fall.
Mrs.. A.E. McKim presented
Sandra Finlay and Kathy Trelea-
ven with the Canada Cord. In her
presentation to the girls Mrs.
McKim mentioned that both the
girls' mothers Mrs. Jack
Treleaven (the former Jane
Johnstone) and Mrs. Robert
Finlay.had been Guide leaders
at one time. The girls thanked
everyone who had helped them
through their Guiding years.
Mrs. McKim gave a
history of the Cords in Guiding.
The Canada Cord now replaces
the Gold Cord.
50 years ago Guiding began in
Lucknow ,when Mrs. A. E.
McKim was, asked toform a
Guide Company. She went to

was the theme of the RDHS
London in June 1923 where she'
took a week's 'training and a Girl
Guide. Company was started in.
September of that •year. Mrs.
McKim was the Captain and
Normahompson was Lieutenant
Lucknoj has had Guides since •
that time. Mrs. McKim has
done.much for Guiding in Luck -
now .
Mrs. McKim received the
Beaver Award in 1959,. a
Provincial award; which is
,given for special service to
Provincial Guiding.
The banquet closed with
Taps.

(annual Spring Prom held on May
18 in the school gymnasium.
And one could dream! The
gymnasium, decorated by the
students of level three, trans-
.formed the scene of hard
knocking sports into a completely
'different world. Upon entering
a door bordered by delicate
white streamers sweeping towards
two golden cherubs, one could
view the deep blue , white and
silver canopy of streamers. The
centrepiececonsisted of a foun-
tain splashing water into a pool
' encircled by bricks. Most '
beautiful was the back wall
which'was overlaid .with shining •
tin discs that reflected quite
effectively the various, colours
of spotlights. Covering the walls
were numerous idealistic scenes
and to complete the final effect
was a floral swing. No less con-
ducive
on-ducive. to dreams was the '
cafeteria, filled with small.
tables and lit by' candlelight.
The big moment arrived at
midnight as last year's royalty,
Bill Kirkpatrick and Margaret
Courtney stepped on stage. As
all'waited, breathlessly, student
council president Carmon Court-
ney announcedthe current •
• school king and queen,' Barry
•MacDonald and Margie MacKay,
RIPLEY-BRUCE FIELD DAY
RDHS hosted Bruce Peninsula
school of Lions Head in a
track and field meet held on
May 24.. RDHS upped the
northern school by earning 356
total points to their 327..
RDHS champions were: ,
Midget Girls,. Priscilla Zipfel
with runner up Patti MacDonald;
Junior Girls, Debbie Beard with
Runner up Joan Courtney; Sen-
ior. Girls, Sally ,Elliott with
runner up Beverley Smith; In
the Midget Boys Courtney Liddle
took the honours while Kevin
Cook was runner up; Richard Be1l.
won the Junior Boys as Wayne
Nicholson was runner up; Winner •
of the Senior boys championship
was Jim Dore Garry Farrell was
runner up.

Death Occurred
In 60th Year
MELVIN STANLEY
The death of Melvin Morgan
Stanley, a Lucknow Garage Oper-
ator, occurred in Kinloss Township
on Saturday, May 12th in his 60th
year.
He• was. born in Kinloss Township
on May 25th, 1913, a son of
Garner Stanley and Rachael Mac-
Donald. .•
Mel had been .operator of the
Sunoco Garage since December
1971. For a few years prior to that
he had operated the Lucknow
Supertest Garage.
He is survived by one brother
William Stanley of Lucknow.
He was predeceased by his
parents and two brothers, Clar-
ence and Harold. '•
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow• on Thursday, May 17th.
Rev. Glenn. Noble of Lucknow
'Presbytrerian Church was minister.
' Pallbearers were six nephews:
'Russell Stanley, Stewart Stanley,
'Wayne Stanley, George Stanley,
Ray Stanley, Clarke Stanley.

• Ronald Stanley and Brian Stanley.
