Service Station - Plana 887.6173 BROWNIE NEWS The Brownies opened their meeting on Tuesday, May 22nd with a' game .“Human Ladders": •After Fairy Queen Lyn Shepherd '-set up the Toadstool, we had Brownie Ring. The Sizers col- lected Fairy Gold and Snowy Owl did inspection. Brownie Ring, was closed with Brownie Prayer. Mrs. Webster came to test the Brownies for their Thrift Badge. She checked everyone's account to see how they had earned their money and looked at the gifts they .had bought. . For work period Brown Owl • • had the seven Brownies that were working on their Observer Badge to test them for Kirrl's Game. Snowy Owl' was busy 'helping ' everyone wrap their parcel. Tawny Owl took the Golden Bar Brownies for an observation walk and they were to see if they could find certain things, that were on a list they were given. At Pow Wow Shirley Loree • showed three interesting things of nature. Tawny Owl reminded the Brownies about our Mother and. Daughter Banquet for Thurs- day. .Brown Owl told the Brown-. ies about ;the Brownie Revel that will be in Teeswater ori Satur- day. The Brownies were remind- ed that this will be 'our .last ' meeting until next September. We then had practise for the Fly -up on Thursday night, for the Brownies that were receiv• ing their wings. They are Kim- berley Cooke , Marian Raynard , Brenda Phillips and Lyn Shepherd, The :,meeting was closed with Taps. Two Girls Receive Canada Cord At Mother and Daughter Banquet; Lucknow Guide Company Started 50 Years Ago ' Two' Lucknow girls Sandr• a Finlay and Kathy Treleaven received the Canada Cord, the highest award in'Guiding, last Thursday evening. The present- ation was made at the annual Girl Guide and Brownie Mother Daughter Banquet which'was held in the Lucknow United ° Church basement. " Some of the Brownies and. Guides played the piano while: the mothers were gathering for the banquet. Mrs. Jack McKim., who was chairlady for the evening, welcomed everyone. Mrs. Robert. Shepherd led in the singing of Grace. A. toast was given to the Queen, •followed by the singing of 0 Canada, accomp,- anied by Guide Kathryn McKim at the piano. Following the banquet Mrs. Don Cameron, secretary -treasurer of the Local Association read the minutes of last years banquet .and gave the financial report. Mrs. Cameron thanked the mothers .for their donations given at the door. Mrs. McKim thanked. Mrs,. Cameron for her help in the preparation 'of the banquet. Mrs.. Jack McKim, cookie , convenor, reported 'a very succ - essful Cookie Day this year, al- though it was a wet day..60,, cartons were sold, a total of 720 -boxes, With. a profit of .$60 for Brownie and Guide activities. Crests for the. Silver Birch Area are now available to Guides. and Brownies. Mrs. A.E. McKim of Lucknow vas introduced as "one of the best friends Guiding has ever had" . Mrs. Angus MacLennan of God- erich who has recently been made Beaver.. Division Commissioner spoke and brought greetings from the Division. Mrs. Don Thompson, Badge Secretary, spoke about the badge work and thanked anyone' present who helped with the teaching and testing of badges.
