RIPLEY HI -CITES
PREPARATION
Spending•a,noon hour at the
Ripley -Huron Central School
were Margie MacKay of
level five .and student council
president Carmon Courtney. The
purpose of their presence there
lay in the task of instructing the
members of the grade eight class
in the skills of dancing. The
project was undertaken in the
hope that the class, who have
been issued invitations to the.
upcoming RDHS Spring Prom on
May 18 may find that the dance
floor is truly an enjoyable place
to be.'
FORESTRY CLUB
On May 8 a number of students
turned up atthe school in rubber
boots and jeans. It was not
because the quality of dress at
RDHS was falling, but ratherbe-
cause a group of pupils involved
in the Forestry Club, headed by
Albert Wylds planned 'on planting
thirty-seven hundred trees, most-
ly coniferous, for the .Township •
of Huron. Those who braved the
drizzling rain were Sally Elliott,
Joyce Elliott, Bob. Campbell,
Brian MacKay, Carmon Courtn'eyd
Andy Coulas, Wayne Armstrong,
Wray' Thompson, Kathy Farrell;
Blain Carruthers and a number
of others. The previous Friday,
the members had received a ship-
ment of trees which they
distributed themselves over the
week end. .
FRENCH CLUB'
On May 10, the. French Club
met in Mrs. Collins' room to dis-
cuss next. year's agenda: A trip
to the Quebec Winter Carnival
was suggested and perhaps the
French Club Would hold an assem-
bly in the near future. The mem-
bers present then planned for their
last meeting. They also looked
at some French games which may
be put t good use for their up-
coming gathering.: '
NOT JUST RUMOUR NOW
A new proposal for Ripley Rec-
reation was introduced by Bob
Emerson to the students of RDHS
on May 3. Bob, the Ripley -Huron
Community Centre Board chair-
man, outlined plans fora recrea-
tion complex to replace the old .
arena Which was constructed as.
long ago' as 1928 and is now below
standard.
The new arena . is to be
constructed for the winter of 1974-
1975 at the west 'end of Ripley.
In order to raise money, the Rec-
reation Committee has plans to
perhaps enter a .province -wide
lottery, as well as stage publiciz"-
ed' walkathons or .bikeathons. ' Mr,.
Emerson put in a plea for the aid
of RDHS students to offer ideas
on what they want in the arena
and to contribute to the cause
,if possible. •'
A rough estimate of cost would
be $300,000 at the most plus an
'additional $150,000 for a swim-
ming pool. Swimming and
figure skating lessons would be
possible as well as the regular
hockey.
SPRING, PROM
Don't forget the annual Spring
Prom which will be held on Fri-
day, May 18. Bobby Downs and
his orchestra willprovide music
for dancing which starts at 9 p.M.
and lasts till 1 a.m. During the
dance, the King and Queen from
Level V will be crowned. Ad-
vance
d-vance tickets which cost $3.50
can be purchased from any, RDHS
student, while at the door, they
are $4.00 a couple.
